I see that the gallery module has some tools for resizing, cropping images etc

Is it possible to allow a client the ability to edit an image in this way if it is just for use in a weblog post? For example if each of their posts contains an image that needs to be the same size and shape?

Thanks

Sort of.  On the publish page, there’s an image upload link on the right- under the submit button.  You can create multiple file browsers in ‘Admin- Weblog - File Upload Prefs’- and assign member groups to any/all of those folders.  Then they can upload to a given folder from the publish page.  When they upload an image, they’ll be given the option to resize it- and either keep the original image or replace it.

The only ‘sort of’ bit is that EE doesn’t allow cropping there.  It will resize- and you can specify the dimensions, but if you wanted to proportionally resize and then crop so all images are 100x100- even if one starts out at 200x50 and another at 75x200- you can’t get a 100x100 without distorting it.

Did that make sense?  But you could say ‘max width is 100’ and height resizes proportionate to that.

Will that do the trick for what you need?

Is there any way to set the max width somewhere in the css/html because my client will be uploading to their new site and even though they will resize the images in the weblog, i’d like to ensure that if they forget to resize the image it won’t go out side the div.

I’d suggest the Image Sizer Plugin - it’ll dynamically resize the image on the server.
