Creating a “more” page

In the Knowledge-Blog, I found instructions to add a “more” page; followed the instructions; but my “extended” text still appears on the index page, and there is no “More…” link. How do I determine what I did wrong? Also…I’m a clueless newbie with EE; am I following the right protocol in posting this question here?
