Hi -
I’m looking for a neat and tidy, (reasonably) painless way to integrate the Expression Engine membership system with a third-party MySQL mailing list / database system. My aim is to be able to duplicate the member sign-up process into an external database as well as EE’s own.
My best solution would look something like this: -
1. An area in the module for adding the external database details (server, database name, username, password).
2. An area in the module for linking EE’s username, password, screen name and email address fields to specified fields in the external database.
3. The ability to specify an external field to link to when creating a new custom profile field in EE.
A new member registration would then need to write to both the EE database and to the external database. And it would be a big plus if any modifications the member made would update both the EE database and the external database.
My good-enough solution would be the same functionality, but setup using manual file and database editing rather than a nice control panel / extension / module interface.
So, anybody tackled this, either in the way I’m suggesting or doing something differently, and be willing to share?
Alternatively, anyone be interested in this as paying gig?
