Hi Folks,

This question is quite over my head so I hope I know what I am about to ask. Ok, here I go…

I am giving a proposal to a Christian University based out of Lithuania who are interested in my design services. And I am to incorporate EE CMS into the proposal. However, the client had mentioned SAP database. Far as I know, SAP is put out by MySQL. And the client said that university would like to use SAP to make data entries. Is this something EE would handle? Sorry for being so vague. My client also did not know what she was talking about when I ask for more details. As you can imagine our conversation was pretty dumbfounded. Can anyone enlighten me on this in EE and SAP database working together? Thanks. smile

You need to talk to someone at your client who knows - really knows - what they want and what they have.

SAP could mean just about anything:

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the good idea. I totally forgot to check with the good ole Wikipedia. I will read about it. Have you or anyone out there ever used SAP related prducts with EE? If, how are you using it? Just trying to research to see if I am suited for this project or not. Thanks again.

I don’t see the immediate connection, to be honest. SAP is a German company making enterprise-level software for managing and analysing data, in the abstractest sense. A bit like Oracle, though slightly different. Yes, they do have a web server of sorts, but I see no immediate benefit of connecting EE and SAP, except perhaps for an intranet of sorts, but that would probably require a sound knowledge of SQL.

Not sure it would be feasible, certainly a major project.

Hi Ingmar. Thanks for sharing your knowledge about what SAP is being used for. I will keep asking questions with the client. Good day. smile

Hey,

I almost did’t this for a client not with EE but with a other system what you need to do is write an interface for SAP. The language SAP usses is called abab ( i think). You just need to write a interface who speak with your webservices or database. But believe me if you are no expert in abab i suggest you to find someone who is and let him develop the interface.

Good luck with getting the project.

Greetings,

Hi there Goeminnek,
I appreciate your insight as well! Sounds like I will at least pitch my design services. I am always trying to incorporate EE into my new projects. Thanks.

ABAP

SAP is…..challenging. They used to say it stood for “Spend All Profits”.

Good luck!!!

Oi vey…! I am getting a headache reading about SAP / ABAP ... these are stuff I really don’t care to learn. Sometimes it is better to just stick with what you know. wink Thanks for the clarification.

You make it sound like that’s a bad thing ...

We use SAP and there’s no problem at all in using EE and SAP together, the snag is that if you are over 20 now you don’t have time to learn how to do it.
