I have a blog that gets few comments and the ones I get are not in the form of a discussion.  I have the latest Discussion Forum module set up nicely and I want potential commenters to be able to click and open a New Topic form in the Discussion Forum instead of a blog entry comment form.  I only have one forum so I just have to make the link something like this:

index.php?/forums/newtopic/32/

and it opens the form page.  The tricky part is that I want the title of the blog entry to be placed in the title field of the Discussion Forum New Topic form.  Is that possible?

Then as a further enhancement, I’d like to give the commenter the option of posting to another topic if for example a blog entry was already a named topic.  That option would not call for a New Topic with Title but simply drop the commenter into the Forum for a review of all topics.  Is there some kind of a pop up window/toolbar technology that could do this?  Maybe I’m dreaming, but I think it would solve my dilemma.

I moved this post to the “how to” section because most of the request does not map directly with current features.  The “how to” forum is best for these types of discussions because you will often find other people in the community who might have come up with creative methods that might fit your needs. 

The easiest method to do what you want would be to anticipate which posts might generate alot of discussion and use the option to create a forum thread out of your weblog post.  You can see this in action on the developer blog.  Notice that the developer blog has a forum entry as well.

I was playing around with creating a forum thread out of a weblog post but thought it would create too many forum posts.  I didn’t think of the excerpt/permalink relationship he set up.  Permalinking back to the blog with the immediate option to go back to the DM for a comment will give me the seemless integration I want.  Thanks.
