Full on nice homepage. On Opera on Mac, pulldown menus go underneath Flash. This Months Poll: Month needs an apostrophe.

Looks great! I got a coupple of questions though: How do you handle the seminar calendar? Are the entries based on the start and end-dates from an entry? Or do you use custom fields? If you do use custom fields, how do you handle the calculation of the dates?

You know me better than that, love. I don’t “do” anything. Things just happen.

IMO the ‘more…’ button on the front page would look better if it had the same blue background as the box below it.
Nice site smile

Hi,

Like your homepage, only complaint is the flashing/blinking/changing news box. Makes it harder to read the other sections of the page. Otherwise like the balance and use of space.

Cheers, Steve

The entries in the seminar calendar are based on the start and end dates for an entry yes, after much playing with alternative approaches this seemed the most logical solution since it gives the client the flexibility to have seminars spanning more than one day if required, and they can specify when registration cuts off.

We also used more than one ‘section’ in EE to handle seminars and established a relationship between the two. There’s a section called ‘Seminar details’ which contains the general seminar data, agenda etc, and then there’s ‘Seminar dates’ which allows the client to specify a date, pick the seminar subject and specify a location and other variables.

This reduced the need for the client to continually copy and paste to create new seminar dates.

Nice site smile

On reflection, yes you’re right. Initially the design was a little different, the buttons are a bit of a carry over from the original concept and perhaps should have been adjusted. smile

Yea, I’m not a big fan either but this was something the client was very keen on. smile

Almost two years later, we just went live with a re-fresh on this EE powered site. Same URL, new look. Nice and easy to deploy thanks to EE. smile

Thanks, that’s always been part of the brief with this client, to maintain a Oracle like Look & Feel… smile

Your site looks way better than Oracles and you probably got the fraction of the pay the oracle developer did.

That being said, I think the PDG site is far simpler in structure than the Oracle site! But yes I suspect that Oracle would be handing out some nice budgets. smile
