After being betrayed by a couple of torrent files last night, I skipped my customary slacking off project of writing the commerce module and fled into the forums for a few minutes.  Battled the evil forces of IIS and wittily solved many a technical problem before landing face first into the Feature Requests forum again.

Why do I do this to myself?  I am thinking of buying my own white jacket and simply teaching the dog to strap me in whenever I load the pMachine site.  Really, I have to protect myself from myself, or else go totally mad.  And who would control Rick then?  Do any of you know what evil plans he is working on right now?  Of course not, but oh, you will be cowering in fear/amazement/befuddlement soon, have no doubt.

A fellow with the nomen “John Shields” made a request for the better handling of tabs when editing templates, which is no small request considering textareas do not have such functionality natively in HTML.  But!  What ho!  There off the port bow (left side, guys), me harteys, it be the frigate JavaScript!  We’re saved!

continue…

Poor doggy! Paul you are obviously breaking animal rights, you more need a slave than a pet! PETA will never accept you joining them ; )

Btw, did I mention “thank you”? If not I will do it now; thanks Paul.

Just as you I thought this would be impossible. But it actually seems to work! Great!

I tested it with Firefox 1.5 and and the most recent update for Safari, but I believe it should work in IE 6 as well.

I’m sorry but it doesn’t work for IE6: when I use a tab on the Basic Page the tab jumps to the adress bar. Sorry wink

Ronny -  Does the second script have the same problem?  The first script used onkeypress for the tabs while the second script used onkeydown with a setTimeout function to call addTab later.  For some reason, I vaguely recall that IE 6 had a different priority for those two.

Do you mean this script: http://www.pmachine.com/labs/template_syntax/

That one’s completely messed up!

1. Check this image:

2. When I wanted to copy the URL from the adressbar, I selected the URL with my mouse. As soon as I hit the ctrl-button co copy the URL, the adress was deselected. I tried it ten times…

Well, it occurs to me I wrote that one only for Firefox and Safari, so nevermind.

I finally downloaded HomeSite (yes, have not yet returned to the luxuries of the Apple fold) and set my templates to save as files, and this works very nicely for editing templates in a full-fledged editor, for those who have not yet tried this. Recommended for any intensive templatery.

The original devblog article seems not to have survived the move from pMachine to EllisLab. Paul, any chance of bringing it back? Or perhaps somebody saved a copy somewhere?

silenz -  thanks for that link, it was driving me crazy, to only see the top half of the post, then continuously redirected to EllisLab.
