Is there a newer version or a good replacement for Filter_HTML as far as truncating text and using ellipsis, etc?
It seems the plugin hasn’t been updated for the latest PHP revisions as is causing my site to error where it is used.
I need to find a good replacement for it as it was indispensible in the few places I was using it.

Yes, I checked the plugins page and author’s site first.  :D

I think that rob1 is working on making it work with PHP 4.4, just awaiting some permission from the original author.

In the meantime, if you find the line numbers from the errors, just go to those line numbers and remove any ampersands - that should get it working for you.

Here is the thread about that:

The, well, changing of the baton if you will, has already taken place:

Actually, Joe kindly agreed to pass over maintenance.  I still need to reply back and square away the details.  In the meantime, I’ve started going through and clearing out ampersands.  Once all that’s squared away, I’ll test it on my install and then post here to get someone who’s actually having a problem with it test it.

Shouldn’t be too long then.

Yes, it was the “square away the details” I was referring to. =)

I’ve heard back from Joe and he’s very cool with the whole thing.  I’ve upgraded my own system to php 4.4.1 and now have the plugin working on it.  Joe sent me a test file, and it does fail 2 out of 175 tests- basically, under some circumstances, when you limit by char, the output is one number off.  So I’ll dig around and hash that out, but it’s not a critical issue.

HOWEVER, I need to test it on php 5x and I don’t want to run two versions of php on my vps.  SO, if someone’s currently using php 5 and would be willing to try a new version and a test file, I’d appreciate it.  I’m fairly certain it will fail- Joe mentioned a bit of a hack required to get it working.  Anyway, I need someone willing to do a little testing for me.

Once it’s tested/debugged on php 5 I’ll get a public version up.
