Seems like a silly question but I’ve set everything properly to default ping and nothing seems to be pinging.

Does EE Actually Ping Automatically?

All members have a group of common URLs (Ping Servers) to ping and they’re set to Default.  Port 80, xmlrpc.  So… I’m wondering why I don’t seem to be pinging?  Also, I’m surprised that EE doesn’t have a ping log of some kind.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

When you post an article, if a ping is not accepted you should see something like this on the confirmation page:

New Entry Submitted

The following XML-RPC pings were not accepted:
info.media-cow.com

Are the pings not being accepted, or never sent at all?  Also, if you go into the ‘publsih’ page, do you see a ‘ping’ tab and if you open it, are the defaults ‘clicked’.

Also- could you let us know the EE version number you’re using.

Thanks for the details and suggestions, Robin.

I had not set the system to display the Ping tab.  I have now.  I noticed that the defaults were not checked.  I’ve checked them inside an entry and hit update which seems to have worked as results indicate a handful of URLs rejected (I just pinged manually so that’s not a surprise).  I appear to be pinging now, thanks.

It can get a little confusing ;o)  Go into Admin ›  Default Ping Servers and make certain that the ones you want checked by default have the Default dropdown set to ‘yes’.

If it STILL gives you problems, note that these settings can be set on an individual basis as well- go into ‘My Account Settings’ and under Weblog Settings, Ping Servers, make sure they are checked there as well.
