That release arrives just in time, my 1.2 trial is running out.
New features look very interesting. Another trial download and night & day testing.
When it is good & easy as it promisses I’ll get the licence. smile

Is there a trial version for the new forum module as well?

This could be to prevent a massive influx of bug reports if something does happen to be messed up. There will a mountain of remarks, questions and pats on the back for them to deal with as it is. A fasedroll out makes much more sense and avoids possible dissapointment from users expecting a prompt reply. By the way, they’ve done it this way before.
Getting the user documentation right is also time consuming and reader responses help with making these documents more accurate. A small team rolling out such a large update and a huge additional product is enough to flumix the best of software developers. They’ve done it and have made one of the best content engines (low cost or otherwise) even better. I personally raise my glass the men in bevelled blue. Slainte!

Since we released it on a holiday weekend I was concerned that if we sent out an email announcement we’d be overwhelmed with support requests and other work that normally accompanies a new release.  I really wanted the staff to enjoy their 4th, although, as it turned out, Paul and I worked until 2AM every night this weekend.  Anyway, now that the weekend is over we’re about to send out our announcement.

Anyway, now that the weekend is over we’re about to send out our announcement.

Rick,

I realize that you can’t always please everyone; I appreciate the work you’ve done with regards to the forum (it looks great, and you make me drool over it, although I find forums a pain in the butt to maintain and moderate), and I appreciate the work you’ve done with regards to the Control Panel. I haven’t complained about the weeks we had to wait until 1.3 got released—I can wait if that means a polished product.

And now the “but”... But I can’t say I’m thrilled by it all. The CP has what I would call major problems with Safari and Omniweb. They both crash under different circumstances. This means me updating the system has forced me to work with Firefox, which I hate (I’m probably unique, but there you have it). I also can’t see much thrilling in the new tags. There are few of them—I sort of saw that coming when I looked at the power of the forum module—which means I once again can’t add much in terms of functionality to my site (others may have more luck).

Finally, I’m waiting for the e-commerce module from day one of the EE release. I’ve seen the Image Gallery pass me by—which I have no use for—and now I’m seeing the forum module pass me by. And still no e-commerce module in sight.

Again, I understand you can’t please everyone and this is not meant to offend you or be harshly critical of your work, but I for one was perfectly happy with the old CP—which I am no longer—and the time and energy you spent into that project could IMMHO have been used better to create the e-commerce module.

It’s amazing to see there are not more users who would have liked that better than the new CP. It’s not so much that selling stuff off an EE site is impossible, but it is harder than it should be.

EricV,

I don’t think the EE user base is one that comes from an e-commerce background. It’s not that I don’t think it’s an important module, but I think, considering the people who were here from the start of pMachine and stayed on for EE, that those people have a different priority list. On that list, the e-commerce module is certainly below the gallery and forum modules.
