Version 1.2.1 delivers several new features and incorporates 15 new templates that were submitted to our template contest (more template will soon be added).  This new version fixes various bugs, refines some features, and adds some security enhancements, so all ExpressionEngine users are encouraged to update.  Version 1.2.1 is available to all licensed ExpressionEngine users at no charge.

Some of the new features:

* A stand-alone version of the “publish” form, so weblog entries can be submitted from any page.
* An improved plugin manager.  Plugins can now be browsed and installed directly from your control panel.  Big thanks to Chris Ruzin for this feature.
* URL mapping for people who migrated from pMachine Pro, allowing pM style links to point to their new EE location.
* Redesigned template installer which allows new template designs to be incorporated more easily.

Please read the changelog for a full list of features and improvements.

ExpressionEngine Version 1.2.1 can be downloaded by logging-in and visiting our download area

While there, please download the new documentation, which includes update instructions.

This is really, great, Rick!!  Thanks to you and everyone else at pmachines for another sweet update.

One question on the redesigned template installer—where is it and how does it work?  I didn’t see anything in the changelog about it and I can’t find it in the CP.  I’m sure I’m looking in the wrong place…

Thanks!

You won’t see anything different.  All the changes are internal, so that we can add new templates, each with a varying number of internal pages, and the system will auto-recognize them in the “themes” folder and install them correctly.  Previously the templates had to have a fixed structure, and the names were hard coded.  The changes will make it easier to add new templates in the future since they just need to be added to the themes folder.

PM url mapping is a good addition. this will allow me to retain older links for users entering these older locations via search engines. That is when I can find time tranfer my site to EE. To date that would have ment I redisign, now, maybe, I can make the jump without a resign.

Thank you for the entry form addition. I think for most of us it could be called the entry form solution.

Maybe I’m confused, or I’m getting old, or my italian language file misleads me, but… where do I find the stand-alone publish form???

Thanks for your kind help.

It’s an EE tag like others.  See the documentation.

When I bought EE on January 2nd I signed up for the pMachine Hosting service as well (VERY smart move indeed!!) and you folks at pMachine loaded the software on your server for me as free service. Do you automatically do upgrades as well, like to EE 1.2.1? Or is it by request? If its by request, then would you please upgrade me to 1.2.1?

Thanks

If you don’t want to do the update yourself (it really isn’t hard, though) then you could try contacting pMachine Services about having it done.

Where is the link to auto-install a plugin? Also, where is the place where you enter the number of versions of a template that are kept? I’m sure they’re right in front of me, but I haven’t spotted them yet. Thanks in advance.

One does not need to install plugins, only modules.  The preference for template versions is under Template Preferences in the Admin section of the CP.

The Plugin Manager documentation lists the requirements.  If your setup is missing one of them then the “install” links for the Plugins may not appear.
