EE Migration Question

Hi guys,
I like your product, it comes highly recommended.
As I am looking at buying and implementing the system my only real pre-sale question is regarding data migration.
And let me preface the rest of this with the fact that I know little to nothing about prying into databases and gathering the sweet meat held within…

Currently I am using dotNetNuke which is a MSSQL database.
I have about 1000 registered users, probably 60 or so message board topics, and 100 or some article comments and ratings that I want to transfer to the EE site when complete.

I am planning on recreating all the articles, and installing solspace or devdemons ratings extension for ratings and comments, and using the standard forum addon for EE, and the standard EE membership system.

So, all that said, what would be the best way to approach transferring that info and keeping the connection between user and comment/message board post?
Like I said, I can do a lot, but database access is not one of them. I am always happy to learn new things, but I am also happy to employ the services of someone who has more skills than I do.

Thanks for the input!

ConorDavis,

Thank you for the compliment!

What you are proposing sounds doable. Getting the information that is currently in MSSQL for the dotNetNuke application and making that data something that ExpressionEngine will understand/use is the real hurdle in what you are trying to accomplish.

ExpressionEngine has a list of consultants in what we call our Professional Network. The Professional Network is made up of ExpressionEngine experts who can help you with your web development needs. I believe the bulk of what you will be doing with this project is related to MSSQL and MySQL and so you may want to hire a consultant or a firm to help you with this. You mentioned that working with Databases is not something you are keen on doing.

I hope this helps, if you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Regards,

I believe

Hi Shane,
I looked into the Professional Network area first, and there is a subsection for EE Migration that listed off numerous companies offering help in migration, but I couldnt drill down and find someone who specializes in work like this.

I might suggest adding a subset to migration, or even a way for the companies to list specialties that are more easily searchable, so that when looking for specific work traits the Professional Network is easier to find useful things. Because there are 3 pages of contacts on EE Migration, all with general profile details it doesn’t send someone in the right direction.

Ill also post this question in the general boards for community recommendations, but I was hoping you guys might have a more specific direction to head to find a resolution.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Conor
