Define one category group for multiple sites to use.

This would be beyond useful.

We run a good number of sites on our MSM. Most of the sites are departments within my institution. The rest of the sites are what I refer to as “centralized services.”

For now we have News set up as a site and the Calendar set up as a site. Both of these sites disseminate news and events respectively based on the categories an individual story or event is tagged with.

It would be great if those two sites could share one category group (a list of all the departments) and, more importantly, the ID numbers.

Another vote. Would be really useful for a site I’m building that has a very large number of categories that are to be shared across 20+ sites.

One more vote for category sharing across MSM. I assumed this feature is already available but realised it is not when I started building the channels on the second site…. smile

Has this been added to the MSM?

A shame this feature request dates back to 2010.

As a teacher, I have a lessons site, a links site and soon a files site. And to have the three sites share the same category group of topics and/or syllabus outcomes would be great - instead of recreating them in each site.

Sharing category groups and statuses across sites would be very handy for me too.  In my case, I’ve got 7 multiple sites with identical structures.  Many of the category and status groups have fixed values (i.e., not editable by most member groups). Sure, I can duplicate the categories and statuses when creating a new site.  But any updates have to be done 7 times.

Adding my vote.  Would eliminate a lot of headaches with showing multiple site entries on a category page, only to find out that the other site entries won’t show because the category in the URL only belongs to the site you are on.  But they’re named the same throughout all sites!  +1
