Just a blog. I haven’t blogged properly for more than a year and have been slowly doing this design for almost as long. Finally my wife has said “enough! finish it tonight!” She just wants me to get to work on her site. This used to be a pMachine site. There is still a bit of tidying up to do behind the scenes so you might find some redundant CSS or overall, things might seem a little messy. Just like my desk.
I’m pretty pleased with it overall now. I use the World Weather and Gravatar plugins (My custom weather description still need a little work). I did a plugin for myself to enable entry-linking across the entire gallery rather than just in a category (public version coming soon I hope). I’m especially pleased with the gallery although I’m now a little concerned that the javascript is a little heavy. I may think about removing the fade-in and the sIFR scripts, depending on user feedback.
I’ve tested in Firefox/Safari/Mozilla/Opera on Mac OS X, Firefox and Internet Explorer on Windows. If javascript or css disabled, all content should still be accessible- ugly but accessible. I also took the step of disowning IE on the Mac for the gallery. I just got so fed up with trying to fix niggly little things in that browser (a browser I used to love) that I decided the easiest thing was just to give it a style sheet it would understand. So the gallery looks different in IE on the Mac but everything should be accessible, although the dropdown menu for the categories doesn’t work quite as I’d like it to. I’m trying to work out a way to disable the javascript altogether for those users only.
Aside from that, I’m really quite pleased. EE is a pleasure to work with. I’ll have an entry linking plugin to subit soon and also a single-template photo gallery for public consumption (everything on one page/template) for those looking for something very simple. There are also a couple more features I want to build in (don’t tell my wife ![]()
Any comments greatly appreciated.
