We just finished this personal blog called at the nursing station.

Our goal was to design and build a simple clean blog.

Built on 1.6.8
using
fieldframes
we’re using ngen file for image upload with FF Matrix
Erskine’s Ed text truncate plugin to truncate the text in the footer comments works like a charm, we use it on all our EE sites.
Ed img sizer but its not in use yet

we’re using Typekit to serve the beautiful FF tisa web pro to browsers that render @font-face with out making it look like it passed through a camel’ digestif system and sending IE cambria backed with georgia which ar eset as default for the Typekit as well.

site is once again hosted on enginehositng who were great at helping me debug some weird issue once i moved from dev to live server.

i do like it, but it is difficult for me to relate content…
One thing i will say though is that accessibility might be a problem for you. I have no eyesight problems, and some pretty decent screens, but i really struggle to read and or use a large chunk of your website. The grey and especially light grey on white is often impossible to read, same for the light blue, especially when overlaid on the grey too.

I also find the header quite chunky and takes up a lot of the “before the fold” space. I was kind of expecting the big graphic at the top to disappear for lower level pages, but it always remained there requiring a fair amount of scrolling… again less of a worry for me on my 2 22” screens, but if i was to look at this on a 1024x768 or my webbook, or similar it would get a little frustrating.

But don’t get me wrong, i do like the design, site and concept - just offering an opinion of mine - which many will argue is way off the mark!

in all honesty for me i can still barely read certain parts!
Prime areas being the twitter feeds and the “lets do this” button at the bottom…

I admit it might just be my screen, or vica versa… But straining my eyes to read it is not good!
I know varying screens have varying contrast/shading setups, etc, and that these are all irrelevant anyway unless you screen is properly configured - but i would be interested to get other peoples opinions on this…
and to see who else uses a screen configurator such as these test sheets, or these screen scanners:

It might be a bit over the top, but i come from a photography background and calibrating screens is critical for that!

example of what i am saying in the above… i just tilled my screen and head (so it shows very light greys as darker greys) and i only just noticed there is a square grid background, box around the footer, and various other elements!!!
