After sending an email with the contact form the <b>4 sec. redirect message</b> pops up.
I want to change the message text from english to another language, is this possible?

Is it also possible to have different language versions for this redirect message?

Next step: After changing my member options to italian I can see the message in italian. What I want is to assign another default language to the anonymous visitor, so he can see the messages in the current language of the homepage.
Is it, maybe, possible to use the setting of the XML language of the current weblog?

It would be fine to include a tag into the template to set the default language version - but as I can see from a previous thread this is not possible.

As far as I know, the language settings for guests are determined by the language settings for the super admin. So you could create another user for yourself (with italian setting), while setting the super admin to whatever you like - giving your site that language setting for non logged in members and guests.

Yes, I found this in “Control Panel Home ›  Admin ›  Localization Settings” - but using three languages for the website, the problem still remains.

The best thing would be a tag or a parameter in the template to change the “Localization Settings” - perhaps this can be integrated in one of the next releases (if this is possible).

I agree, only suggested that as a workaround ... Perhaps you’d search the feature request forum if there is already a FR for that and either add your support for it or file a new FR?

EE is designed to let you set the “default” language shown to people.

Users who then register with the site can go into their member profile and set the language they prefer.  When they visit, they will see messages and such in the language they selected (assuming they’re logged in).

Chris, could you please comment on which setting is used for the “default” language and if it could be set “per weblog”?

I assume the superadmin setting to be this default setting, but that would not the optimum: I generally like to use english settings because the language in the support forum is english and some translations aren’t optimal - but my site is in Germany ... so I had to switch to german because of the system messages appearing for the users. In addition, I was thinking about a second english-language blog - but the EE “default” setting seems to be global, not per weblog. Am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance
-Markus

You can set the “default” language in one of two ways:

1. ‘Admin > Localization Settings’

2. You can set the default localization settings used to correspond to those of a particular member (a SuperAdmin or any other).  Select the member in the Control Panel and under ‘My Account > Administrative Options’ you can choose “Use this member’s localization settings as the master site default?”

Any of these localization settings are site-wide; they aren’t weblog- or Template-specific.

These two settings are working fine, but if you don’t want to offer a registration for members and you have two or three language versions of the same website the default language remains fixed for the whole website with the setting in:

1. ‘Admin > Localization Settings’

Would it be possible to set the default language of an anonymous user with a cookie? Let’s say the start page is in german (default language for the whole site), and when the visitor is clicking on the flag for the english version, he will get also a cookie to switch to english as the default language for the whole website.
I don’t know if this is possible with Expression Engine. Can this be done?

Here is an example of the language setting in my picture gallery .

This isn’t possible natively.  You would have to hack EE (specifically, hack the code that pulls localization settings) to change it and enable that functionality.

Ok Chris, thank you for the information.

As a solution I can also hack the sting of the relative message about the ‘4 seconds redirect’ to provide the message in different languages, as this was my initial question question of the thread.
