Hi,

I would like to know how many uses ALL modules in their EE-sites?
What i dont find usefull at the moment are basicly: Trackback, Updated Sites, Simple Commerce(well its kinda useless in Finland), Metaweblog API, Blogger API, IP to Nation, Moblog and Wiki Module.

I would love to use Wiki and Moblog but dont find anything right now that how i would add those features in my live-site. The rest that i dont use is for me at least “forgotten” ones, that i have never found such functionally that i could use them. I’ve tried to use Updated Sites but as far as i can see, it works today only within the EE related sites. What i have never use is those API Modules, dont even know what benefits they would offer to me and the rest of our Team.

So, why i posted this? I would love to read how i could add power to my site by taking those forgotten Modules again in use, i just need examples or ideas, hints - how it would add something new to present.

At the same time i wonder, what 2.0 brings along with it. That i know that Photogallery Module gets better(well i think so if i read right that one EE Blog entry).

Cheers:
- Pete

PS. Dont take this post wrong, i only am interested how i could add something new to enduser Experience when using website created with EE. Thanks!

I’ve been experimenting with the Moblog module uploading photos and text from my phone, it works a treat as well.

Usining Moblog is easy so long as you only want to make basic posts, but if you have to start adding tags for category etc then it can become a bit cumbersome typing them out all the time. However, if you can create an email template on your phone for Moblogging it makes life a lot easier.

As for what it could be used for, well here’s my list of ideas;

1. Photoblogging - simply upload a pic and title
2. “Normal” blogging of course
3. Your own personal “Twit” facility - nothing to do with Twitter but great for adding quick one liners. Posting to a jokes database would be an ideal use, how many times have you heard a joke in the pub and wished you could publish it on your site straight away?
4. Where am I now (possible tie in with maps?)
5. Thought of the day
6. Current mood
7. Personal status - I’m in the office/out of the office
8. Posting links

Moblog is also very useful for getting data from FreeForm into a regular weblog. Set up email templates in both modules, then have your FreeForm form email the submitted data. Moblog then checks that email and puts it into the weblog.

No kidding. What a great idea.

I’ve been retrofitting some sites with Moblog (didn’t bother using it for years until the iPhone) this week. There’s a little iPhone app called Mail Snippets which I set up to hold a variety of EE Moblog templates. In a couple of touches/clicks the iPhone’s Mail app becomes the ultimate remote, mobile, standalone entry form for an EE site.

FreeForm is another layer of icing on the cake.

I’ve tried a bunch of the iPhone apps that connect to WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, EE, and others. Most are cumbersome to use, and for EE don’t handle custom fields, categories, or the basics of a SAEF. The WordPress app is decent. iBlogger app works with EE but the interface needs some taste.

With Snippets and Mail (and a page or two of Notes to remember field names, structure, and categories) the iPhone can be decent for quick EE updates with no problem.

I’d say this area is wide open for someone to develop a good EE app for the iPhone. Has anyone worked on a SAEF for the iPhone screen size?

I’ve never done it but it’s easy enough to create a bare bones SAEF template and do it via iPhone/Safari as a normal web page?

Is that a statement or a question?

wink

The Mail Snippets app and iPhone Mail using Moblog works well. I’m working on an iPhone page for a site now, so I think I’ll take a look at doing an SAEF in the iPhone size format.
