Paypal can create “subscribe” buttons for subscription services that have an initial fee for a set period of time and then a recurring payment every set period of time (week, month or year) thereafter.

Can EE handle recurring payments via Paypal like this?

I notice no one replied to this. Probably because it is under the wiki article thread.

Anyway, Simple Commerce will allow you to change a member’s member group on purchase, but will not interact with Paypal’s IPN in order to allow for automated recurring payments. You could do this manually however, as Paypal does email the details of transactions.

Or, if you can code fairly well in php, you could customize EE to work. There is a test module floating around that got expiration to change the member group.
