Maybe EL let the cat out of the bag a little too soon re: 2.0. So what? What’s done is done, and thousands have managed continued success (myself included) with the 1.x.x branch of EE.

Personally, I’ve had more fun than frustration over the last 2 years. Good software takes time. Really great software from a small, but obviously dedicated, team of talent takes even MORE time. I would be more upset if EL released CrapWare 2.0 to silence the ninny little cry babies, than if EE 2.0 took another full year (or 2) to be the product they are capable of producing.

I personally might dont want to know what new is coming because it sure will mess up my present work. I mean if i now read the upcoming new features, i start to think “blaah, i dont do this and that…i’ll wait for the 2.0” and that or what, is bad for the innovation and business - thats when its coming to my little nutbrains =)

Sure, i would love to read more about those but still…We have waited long so the rest of the time goes fast, if it takes 4 months, its going fast. If it takes 2 months, it’s like “tomorrow”.

Im happy atm. and forgotten all hype and i wish EL Team the best in this semi-last run before cigars and beers are out!

nevsie, I’m confused.  Why would you want to build beta sites for 2.0 when you just admitted it wouldn’t have anything to do with 2.0?

I want to clarify that I’m not being a “ninny little cry baby” that’s coming down on EL.  Quite the opposite.  I champion for them on a daily basis.  I’ve sent a lot of money their way through my own purchases and referrals.  I’ve been successful as a developer due in large part to EE and they deserve all the praises they are entitled to.  Hell, I can even empathize with them.  I headed up a MUCH larger coding project in an industry just as volatile as the one they are in and I too “let the cat out of the bag too early” and learned the lessons they have learned/are learning.  I can go into the woes of where it led us (loss of market share and audience confidence, etc.) but that’s not why I’m here.

I’m simply saying that if they are at a stage where beta is being offered, that traditionally means they are feature-locked and tested to the point where it’s pretty safe to say those features will make it to release.  As such there is absolutely no harm in releasing some of those features.

nothing to be confused about… i have a couple of my projects (not client projects) that at some point i would like to get going. I never run a clients project on a piece of software i have never tested and learnt first off my own back.
So what better scenario than building one of my ideas as a Beta test project, whilst learning how to develop EE with CI, that eventually might go live if there are no Serious Beta Bugs.

Admitidly i also know that there is a new media manager involved (that has been declared) and would want to see how this is used against say for example FieldFrame, Matrix and Ngen File… etc. But that does not stop me developing paid client work, that is just my intruige.

That’s great news… Will there be documentation available at the same time the beta becomes accessible to the Pro Network?

I’ve been sitting on a personal project for several months waiting for EE2.  I started it in CodeIgniter, but decided to give EE a try.  After getting deeper in to EE I found that it would be a lot of work to convert over.  So now my site is sitting on hold until I get my greedy little paws on EE2.  Since it’s a personal site it can afford to wait, but my own little CI CMS is pushing out the client work until I can see if EE2 is as sweet as it looks.
