1.0 to 1.1 problem

I downloaded and replaced everything as spelled out.

I typed into the browser the address for the system/update.php as required.

I was told that the site was updated.  My control panel reads v. 1.1

But the control panel also tells me to delete the install.php file.  If I do this, then try to access the site, I am told it is not installed.  But if I leave it there, I am taken to the install wizard, which I am told not to run because this is an update.

Where do I go from here?  I must be almost there.

Also, I have no idea how to check or set file permissions.

Is the path.php file supposed to be empty?

I bet you people who know this stuff just get fed up with people like me?

Alright, I’ve checked and doublechecked just about everything that I can think of.

The software appears loaded.  The entries all seem to be there in the control panel.  I can access the templates and make changes apparently.

I just can’t access the site, getting the message: The system does not appear to be installed.

No, path.php should not be empty.  You should not have done anything to that file during the upgrade since the instructions only tell you to update files inside your “system” directory.

Open up your path.php and put in something like this:

<?php

  $system_path
= "./system/";

?>

Replace “system” with whatever your system directory name is and also make sure the relative path is correct.

I won’t even try to explain my reasoning for doing the things I actually did.  I swear, trying to work with this stuff makes me feel like a little kid.  I’m in constant need of either guidance or a good scolding.

Thanks Chris, that bit of code seemed to do the trick.

I might recommend adding a line to the upgrade instructions, for people like me who think they’re clever but aren’t.  The instructions say to replace all of the files in the system file with the exception of the two mentioned.

There could maybe be a line after this that very specifically states that the other files that accompanied the download DO NOT need to be upgraded.  I know this may seem very obvious to the trained eye, but dopes like me sometimes over-think these things as we bumble along.

Thank you very much for the help.  You guys really are great.

I’ve already added a note like that to the next version of the documentation. [grin]

This sounded like the same problem I had when I did the upgrade, so I tried Chris’s solution and it worked! Thanks Keith for asking the question and thanks Chris for the help.  I’m so relieved it was so easy to fix.
