I installed EE for someone the other day.
http://www.theblogfather.net/expeng/index.php And it seems to work just fine.  The site is on a windows server.

Today I tried to create a new template called tester so that I could work on a new layout.  I created the file, but when I tried to view it I got a “No input file specified” error message.  try it yourself   I then tired all/any of the links on the main EE page http://www.theblogfather.net/expeng/index.php and I got the same “No input file specified” error.

I don’t even know where to begin with this. Could it have been something with my install?  Could it be something with the windows server?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to enable the “force query strings” option in:

Control Panel > Admin > Output Preferences

Rick
I can now see the links that are on the main page.

But when I try to access the new template I still receive the same error. When I view the rendered template (the url being http://www.theblogfather.net/expeng/index.php?/weblog/tester/ ) it shows the default index page.  not the text that I have written there.  It’s just one line “this is the tester page. but it sill doesn’t work right.  how weird.”

You have one of those rare servers that isn’t very flexible.

Try this:

Open your index.php file.

Near the top you’ll see this:

$qtype = 0;

Change the zero to 1, like this:

$qtype = 1;

If that doesn’t work, try the number 2.
