Just a note about email notification templates:

I see this when I’m on the Admin Notification of Comments template update page:

Admin Notification of Comments
This template defines the message that an admin receives when a comment is posted.
The following variables can be used:  {weblog_name} {entry_title} {comment_url}

But I had a friend point out to me that {comment} can be used also.  Is there a {user_name} or other similar field too?  I’m just curious now as to what else I’m missing because it’s not listed on that page…

Are you on the latest build?  That may be the discrepancy.
