I’m starting a new site and having fits with the related entries tag.

1. It’s listing the current entry as a related entry. I’d read elsewhere that this was fixed for 1.1, but apparently not.

2.  It’s not listing anything other than the current entry.  If I go add a new entry to the same category, it lists the current entry TWICE.  If I add a yet another entry, it lists the current entry THREE times.  (There seems to be a pattern here, but my Louisiana public skool edgucashin is keeping me from picking up on it smile )

I’d be happy to let one of the ee dev or support team log in and check it out if you want, just send me an email and I’ll send you some login info.

That is strange.  I’m using that tag as per here and as you can see the actual entry isn’t in the related entries.

Can you post your related entries code? Just so we can have a quick look, and a link to an example if you can… =)

Here’s the code I’m using, which was lifted right out of the user guide.

{exp:weblog:related_entries limit="10" }

<a href="{comment_path=weblog/index}">{title}</a><br />

{/exp:weblog:related_entries}

I’d rather not link to the site prior to its launch, but I can mail you the link if you want.

Basically what it’s outputting is this:

Entry One

Blah blah blah blah blah

Are you maybe nesting the related entries tag inside of the regular weblog entries tag?  It shouldn’t be nested.

Just trying to think of a reason you might get the behavior you’re seeing.

Yep, that’s probably the problem smile

I assumed it *would* need to be in the weblog tag in order to know which entry/category to show related for.

Might be a good idea to make a notation in the user guide not to nest them.

Thanks Chris!

Well, as a general rule, you don’t nest base EE tags.  Plugins can be nested, and you can nest conditionals and such, but I can’t think of any normal instances where a regular {exp:....} tag gets nested apart from the RSS/Atom feeds.

Anyway, no nesting there.  The tag gets its information from the URL: either the URL Title or the Entry ID for the entry being displayed.

I take your point, but just to save someone else the frustration I endured, it wouldn’t hurt to add one line like “Make sure your related entries tag is *outside* your weblog entries tag”.
