I’m using the following code to create a thumbnail, and link it to the full size popup window in my Moblog code:

{images}
<a href="{file}"
onclick="window.open('{file}','popup','width=655,height=495,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes,
toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false"
>
<
img src="{thumbnail}" /></a>
{/images}

And the results can be seen here.

It works fine under Firefox (Haven’t got Mozilla to hand to test this), but if I use IE, I get a 403 error on the popup image.

I’ev checked permissions, the images/photoblog folder that they live in is 777 and the JPGs themselves (both full size and thumbnails) are 644 ... changing to 777 makes no difference.

This only appears to happen in IE, but I’ve only got Firefox and IE to hand ...

Ideas?

Safari gives an error saying the file is not viewable too, even when using the full URL for the full size image.  Firefox 0.9, Camino, Mozilla 1.7, and IE 5 all on Mac OS X have no problems though.  You would think if one browser was having this problem, they all would have it.

What are the permissions on the thumbnail?

644 on both thumbnail and full size, and changing them to 777 doesn’t help either.

This one is confusing me ... I figured it was something off in the popup code?

Ok, I think I’m going mad.

Firefox, everything works fine. I can view, download, open etc ... both thumbnail and full size.

IE, the thumbnail displays, but the full size can’t be viewed or downloaded.

I just noticed, my FTP client is beign refused permission to change the permissions of either file (actually *any* file) from 644 to anything else ....

but surely 644 is enough? And why would firefox work, and not others.

The mind boggles ... ideas?

Hm, I think it is not allowing you to change permissions because technically you do not own that file, the webserver user does since it wrote it to the server.  I think I will have to modify the moblog module to write every file as 777.  If you want to send me an email, I can get on your server and write a quick script to make all your moblog files 777.

I would think 644 would be enough, myself, since it allows everyone to read the file.  And since the webserver is controlling permissions, I have no idea why some browsers are being picky.

Ok, got it!

My control panel (cPanel X, V9) for the domain had hotlink protection enabled ... when I shut this off, it works fine.

Whats wierd is it doesn’t even work if I simply remove photo.blogroll.org from the list, only if I turn it off entirely.

Why Firefox doesn’t seem to care, I have no idea, but it’s resolved now!

OK, I still think I should change the permissions on those files for you, if that is ok.

sure, go for it ... I just uploaded a new one from my phone, and EE is putting them in there with 644 permissions, and owned by the server ... I can’t change them
