Hello, I’ve been playing around with EE and I absolutely love it. By far the best CMS out there.

I have a question about the two licenses available. I’m a professional designer/developer/photographer and I’m creating my portfolio site at the moment. I’m currently a clientside designer for a global brand which means I’m am contracted to work solely for them and I cannot take on any paid freelance work. This means that I will not be courting any business through my portfolio site, it will simply be a repository for my work and a place to recieve feedback from my peers. I will also not be posting any work I’ve done for my company, as I’m contractually bound by NDAs and the like. There will be no adverts on the site, and I will not be making any revenue from it’s existence.

Based on these factors, would I be able to use the EE Core framework or would I still have to purchase the fully licensed version?

Thanks a lot.

Doesn’t sound commercial in any way to me so I would bet Core would be ok - Not official, just an opinion.

Two simple questions can help you determine what type of license you need.

1. Is the primary purpose of the site to make money?

2. Is the purpose of the site to support a legal business or professional service in any way?

If you answer yes to either of the above then you need a Commercial license.

Based on your project details I’d say a Core or a Personal license would be just fine.

Thanks for the speedy reply guys.

Yup, there’s no money do be made from this one, purely for posterity! I feel a little guilty using such a good framework for free, maybe I’ll buy a few modules (the post tagging one looks good).

Cheers!
