This is my second full EE site:

http://www.andyposner.org

The site has 4 feeds. The 2 main blogs are integrated on the homepage all under “what’s new” but then separated on their respective homepages. I also integrated the gallery and wiki into the template so the system is visually cohesive.

What a blast. I have enjoyed every second of EE development. All my sites are now going to be EE, no doubt. Goodbye open source “free” systems! I could never have done this site in J****a or D****l smile

Nice job. The integration of the amazon store is nice and seamless. I like it.

A couple suggestions:

1. For some reason the “About Andy” page is the only one that the navbar doesn’t keep the tab activated when you’re on it.
2. A favicon would be nice. Your light bulb image in the header would work well.

Woops. Fixed the nav: comma missing in CSS list!

Favicon is a good idea. I’ll work on that.

Cool site. I was looking around and Safari is telling me that there is an error loading the site. The error is:

http://localhost:8881/crossdomain.xml - can't connect to host.

Do you recall what page gave you that error? I wonder if an ad module is broken - crossdomain.xml might be a flash related thing. Other people are adding content and managing the site now, which makes tracking broken stuff a bit more challenging.

I saw it on the home page.

Yikes! The client is running the site, adding his own ads, some of which are from wordofblog. I’ll have to look into this!

thickbox is one of those inscreen javascript popups… usuall centralised, with a semi-opaic black background and used for image popups… http://jquery.com/demo/thickbox/

Have a look for the jquery ones as it allows you to open pages, iframes, images, etc all in a thickbox.

Ah - that is great! I’ve not used the jquery framework, but this is a good reason to start. I’ve been using Spry extensively on a lot of projects. I’ve also used some other modal dialogues and images like that in place of popups, but didn’t know iframes was supported like this.

The pain about the iframe, at all, for use with Amazon stores is that you have to have the height set to 4000px. Yes 4000px. It has to allow for the longest page it will generate which is awful. I looked into some javascript solutions for dynamically resizing the iframe based on content size, but I couldn’t get it to work cross-browser. So I’m stuck with a 4000px long page, which really bugs me.

why not just set the iframe or page to autoscroll? so it does not matter? confused? anyway!

I think from a UI perspective, the affordance that the current page suggest for scrolling is annoying enough. Putting an iframe with a much more visible scrolling UI, and hence greater affordance, would be even more annoying as now it’s highlighted, and even more suggestive of a lot of content. When the user moves the small scroller (because 4000px is a large area) they will quickly see “nothing” but a big white blank thing against the black background.

The current solution is not great, but I think the modal solution worsens, not lessens, the UI goofiness I have going on at the moment.

It would be better not to be using an Amazon store altogether, but that is where things are at the moment.
