Hi,

On http://www.ocmw-info-cpas.be/ you can see an EE site working good.
This site is online since over two years.

Now yesterday the webmaster of the this site I build says she can’t log in to the control panel (http://www.ocmw-info-cpas.be/systeemfiles/index.php).

I tried it myself and I can’t log in to the control panel as well. This is obviously a major problem.

I searched the forum for answers but did not find one that had the solution. I also tried this solution by Lisa Wess (http://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/79243/) but then I get this error:

Warning: pmachine_news_feed(/home/ocmwinf/public_html/systeemfiles/plugins/pi.magpie.php) [function.pmachine-news-feed]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/ocmwinf/public_html/systeemfiles/cp/cp.home.php on line 1143

Fatal error: pmachine_news_feed() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/ocmwinf/public_html/systeemfiles/plugins/pi.magpie.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/ocmwinf/public_html/systeemfiles/cp/cp.home.php on line 1143”

Can somebody help me with this problem? I really don’t have a clue.

Grtz,

Bart Houben

You could turn off the newsfeed check for all users via a query-

UPDATE exp_member_homepage SET pmachine_news_feed = 'n'

Or- just your member id to see if that’s the actual issue:

UPDATE exp_member_homepage SET pmachine_news_feed = 'n' WHERE member_id=1

That assumes 1 is your member id.

No way to tell for sure if that’s what was causing the initial problem, though.  Removing it caused the error.

What build/version are you running?  And did anything else change?  If it was running fine before and just broke, it suggests a change somewhere.  (Though the newsfeed could cause this).

Hi Robin,

Thanks for the fast answer.

Where should I put that query or what should I do with it?

My hosting provider told me nothing changed on the server…

Do you have phpmyadmin?  This will be a direct db manipulation- but a minor one.  It will basically turn off the feed for all existing members.

But yep- phpmyadmin or something similar.  Might want to do a quick backup before proceeding- at least of the exp_member_homepage table.

Hi Robin,

That did the trick! Thanks a lot!

Any ideas why this happened right now?

Weird- no, I just checked on one of my installs- cleared magpie cache manually and refreshed the home page- pulls the feed in ok.

So- either it’s a short term blip where your site can’t make contact.  OR something changed server side that won’t allow the connection to be made.  I would put the magpie folders back in there- and if I had time, might use the plugin on the frontend w/some different sites- see if it can pull from them.  The goal would be to figure out whether magpie works at all- or if it’s just borking on the EE feed.

Heh- that make sense?

Everything will be good in the end. If it’s not good, it’s not the end.
