Kansas is a really nice place to live, but the politicians here tend to be old, retired men who focus solely on things like abortion, gay marriage, music lyrics, and teaching creationism in schools.

The people here actually aren’t nearly as conservative as they are, but since we don’t pay our legislators a salary, this seems to be the only kind of people we usually attract for public office. When a thinking, moderate person runs, they tend to do well - our Governor is on the short list as a V.P. choice for Obama, for example.

I’ve decided to “retire” my current State Representative.

I’ve arranged with my employer to take a leave of absence (and deal with the no salary thing) and I am now campaigning in my neighborhoods. People are thrilled.

The task is huge, though, because I have to spend most of my time raising money, usually in small increments. All of the brochure, postcard, postage, and yard sign costs really add up quickly, but so do donations of $10 here and $25 there.

I’ve been a Web guy for years and there isn’t one politician with the background to understand why - technically speaking - you can’t censor the Internet, which is something my opponent talks about. It drives me crazy.

I built my campaign website with Expression Engine because it’s the most flexible, powerful CMS around and I use it every day at work as I’ve noted here before.

My campaign website is here:

Take a look and let me know what you think. Encouragement, ideas, and suggestions are welcome. And, of course, donations are very welcome, too. grin

Wow Sean, that’s really inspiring.  Good luck.  Your site looks great.

Great layout, the accordion menu is a good fit.
Will there be a site search, did I miss it?

Thanks for all the encouragement.

No, there’s no search box mostly because I 1) don’t have a ton of content in there yet, and 2) I’ve been a little busy going door to door campaigning and don’t get enough time to add finesse to the site. I’ll probably get that in sometime soon, though.
