I’ve just upgraded a bunch of sites to 1.5.1 and while I like the pmachine news feed, I think it takes up prime real estate in a way that most of my clients aren’t going to appreciate.  I know that each individual user can customize their CP home page, but a lot of people won’t spend enough time in the control panel to figure that out.  Is there a way to edit the cp home page for all users?  Or change the defaults?

Here is an extension for you so you don’t have to mess with the database.

Wiki’d on the extensions page and the one Derek linked.

Cocoa - you have a bunch of extensions and plugins, I believe - I’d like to encourage you to link to them on the wiki in their appropriate location, so we can find them. =)

This didn’t do anything for a current member - is it just for new members?  I still had to run the sql query for current members.

Yeah, Cocoaholic’s extension applies to member registration, so that new users will have the feed disabled, but doesn’t require you to change the database field settings.

Yes,

This extension wil disable the News Feed for new members only.
When a member registers through your website or when you register a new member in the CP, it will disable the News Feed for that member.

You will have to run the query for current members once, the extension will take care of any future members.

@Lisa,

red face I will try to remember to do that from now on.

Thank you, sir.  The community (and my ability to find stuff for tech support) loves you both for the extensions, and making them findable. *grins*

Thanks so much Cocoaholic,

I have a client with a potential 2,000+ publishers that will all have access to the CP and your ext. with Paul’s query takes care of removing it for all of the publishers.

Wish there was an ‘off’ radio button in General settings or some other place though.

Perhaps in EE 2.0.  ;~D

Hi this extension is great, but where have the instructions gone for how to remove the Ellis lab news feed for all members including old ones?  It was linked here
http://expressionengine.com/wiki/Disable_pMachine_Feed_For_All_Users/
but this takes you to NON page.

I think this should be the page you are looking for.

Probably got the title changed as it is now ExpressionEngine and not pMachine but perhaps not such a good idea changing the title whoever did, slap hands! wink Either that or the link was never right in the first place. Not sure which though. grin

Hope that’s the right one for you.

Best wishes,

Mark
