Update: Version 2.0.1

- Fixes incompatibilities with PHP4, you could call it a downgrade.

Update: Version 2.0.0

For all those interested LG Twitter 2.0 is now available from my site.

New features include:

- Quick Tweet Bar
- MSM Compatibility
- Twitter Publish / Edit tab
- LG Addon Updater integration

Check it out.

LG Twitter 2.0 - Send Tweets from your ExpressionEngine control panel

————————————————————————————————

Hey Guys,

Another day another extension… trying to get them all in before 2.0 smile

This is another simple extension that does one thing… in this case update your Twitter.com status from text in a custom field.

So heres the use case…

Create a new weblog with new custom fields as normal.
Add a new field and call it Twitter Update or something else… just remember the custom field id
Update the extension configuration and add the custom field

Now every time you create a new weblog entry from that weblog and fill in the Twitter Update custom field LG twitter will update your status on twitter.com

Easy…

Check out LG Twitter - Update your Twitter Status from Expressionengine on my site.

Its a first draft but it is bug free as far as I can test. Oh did I mention this one was free?

Cheers Leevi

You are ridiculous - now you can read minds. I have been avoiding Twitter like that plague, for no particular reason other than to be antisocial, I suppose…until yesterday. Being here at SXSW I feel like if I’m not Twittering, I’m useless. grin I’ve just (and I mean just today) installed Twitbin for FF and Twitterific, enabled SMS notification and set a Twitter shortcut on the homepage of my iPhone. Then I come to the forums, type “twitter” into the search field, and see that you’ve written a plugin. Coincidence?

UPDATE: Because I’ve just started using Twitter, and I have no twits (which should be the term used for “friends”), allow me to pimp myself: code name “masuga”

I figured the twitter plugin would be useful for getting some incoming links to new entries and basically allowing me to inform people of new updates to my extensions.

Have fun with it…

You can use it in one of two ways… create a twitter blog or add a custom field to an existing blog.

Cheers Leevi

Just installed—and reinstalled—lg-twitter-1.1.0.2 and got the following error message:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in ... extensions/ext.lg_twitter.php on line 634

Any suggestions for fixing?

Thanks.

I hope you mean v 1.0.2 smile

I ran validation on the local file on my machine and the php file seems ok. As a result I replaced the zip on my site with the one on my local site. Try downloading it again.

Cheers

LG,

Downloaded again from your site: Same error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in .../extensions/ext.lg_twitter.php on line 634

And ... for some reason upon download my computer adds a digit before the download name. : /
That’s why it was off.

Thanks for your help.

Was this ever fixed? I just downloaded and installed and I’m getting the same error. Grabbed it straight from Leevi’s site, installed and got the error. Any thoughts welcome.

Anybody actually using this extension? If I add it to my extensions folder and go to view installed extensions in the CP, I get a blank screen…once I remove it everything works fine. Anybody else have this issue?

I’m using EE 1.6.3
LG Twitter 1.0.2

Thanks in advance

I used it for a few days, then switched to http://twitterfeed.com/.  I like the idea of it grabbing my rss feeds and posting rather than tweaking EE to do the posting.

I was having the same problem with the ‘line 635 error’ as everyone else and had a rather simple solution. Update your hosting to PHP 5 and everything is resolved. Bingo.

I know this may complicate things a bit, but its something I’ve noticed. I constantly make blog posts and post date them modifying the time and date of each entry so I don’t have to be in front of a computer all the time. As an example I’ll spend a few hours monday night making posts for the entire week. Well LG Twitter ignores that and just twits it right away. The result is a bunch of twits to links of posts that aren’t there yet (sometimes up to a week). Thankfully someone on my twitter site feed pointed it out. Any ideas?

Hey Nelson,

I was actally thinking about this issue the other day. I think the best way to handle it is to rewrite the extension completely as a tab and not as a weblog field at all.

In the mean time I think I could tweak the extension to delete the value before it goes into the db.

Cheers Leevi

Ok I rewrote LG Twitter last night and changed its implementation.

Now LG Twitter appears as a fixed bar on the bottom of your screen while your in the admin.

Only certain member groups can tweet (currently restricted to one account) and its MSM compatible.

I have attached a screenshot of what I have so far. Any feature requests?

Ok So I spent a bit more time on LG Twitter 2.0 and now its time to get some people to test it for me.

Today I added a tab to the publish page so you can auto Tweet when you create a new entry or edit a new one. Tabs can be on one or many weblogs and restricted to member groups.

Screenshot below.

Whos in? PM me for a copy.

Cheers

Leevi, this looks really, really, interesting now. Especially the fact that you can set a default tweet using variables on a weblog by weblog basis. Pretty cool. Wondering how the variable substitution works against the character count, though. Are you not allowed to submit if, after variable replacement, the character count goes above 140? Or does the Tweet get truncated?

Nice work on the quick tweet bar at the bottom, which looks nice - and with the option to disable that - well thought out there.

Wondering if in any of these extensions that use jQuery, there shouldn’t be a further option to use the Google AJAX Libraries API? I’m increasingly interested in the thought of that. I suppose the user could just enter the full script path to the google version in the supplied field? (I just did that with this extension, putting “http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.2.6/jquery.min.js” in the field for the jQuery script).

A further thought: similar to your new “Addon Updater” extension, maybe there is an extension solely for calling jQuery, and other extensions could be modified to look for that extension. That single “I look for presence of jQuery only” extension could have the option to use Google or a script local to the site.

Thanks for all your hard work.
