Hello All,

I am hoping to set up two or three columns on my home page which allow users to create their own articles and in which a preview of the 5 or so most recent articles are displayed.  I am not interested in having the admin be the only one who can initiate articles.  I want my users to be able to write their own articles, perhaps upload related documents, and then watch as others read, download and respond to them.

Anything users generate can be seen by all, so this isn’t technically giving them their own blog.  It’s more of a public square kind of thing.  Each column is its own subject area.

Is this possible with Expression Engine?

Forgive me if this is too basic or is covered elsewhere.  I am new to EE and just couldn’t find this answer!

I moved your question from How-to into Pre-sales since the answer to your question is Yes but it requires the Member Management Module which is only available in the full version of ExpressionEngine.

With EE you can setup community blogs where Member Groups you specify can contribute articles to the blog. Blog entry authors can be notified when someone comments on an entry they have written. You can give them various permissions, including limited access to the Control Panel and upload permissions. You can also set up the Stand Alone Entry Form (referred to as the SAEF) if you don’t want to give people access to the CP at all.
