I’m a new user of EE and am excited to try it out on client work after test-driving the core version and doing some reading of the documentation.
Following the install Video tutorial I changed the system file name, uploaded the files and them changed the appropriate permissions as instructed. After that I began the installation process, accepted terms of use, told the install what I have changed the system file name to, and boom…I get an error telling me my permissions are not correct for the following files:
path.php
./system/config.php
./system/cache/
images/uploads
images/captchas
I have checked and reset all of the permissions using Transmit and they show to be the correct settings. I’m not sure how to get around this, as my FTP program appears to believe the file permissions are set to the correct settings, yet EE believe it to be otherwise. Can anyone help?
Which version and build are you using? If I understand you correctly, you’re stil stuck in the installation phase? What kind of server (Windows, or UNIX) are you using?
Welcome to the forums, and—I knew we’d meet again (For anybody else reading this, we had a brief encounter via email before.)
So that is the latest version and build, no surprises here. I still think it’s a permission issue, of course. Have you changed the other directories and files as per the installation instructions without a problem? When you connect to the server with your FTP client, what permissions does it give you for these files?
It for the other files, like config_bak.php, images/avatars, etc, it shows the permissions exactly right. Even for the files/folders in question it shows the permissions to be as they should be. Here is what I’ve got it set at:
OK, that is kind of weird. Can you send me login info (FTP account) and location of your site per mail? Use ingmar.greil@ellislab.com, please; I’d like to take a look myself, if you don’t mind.
meaning that user “nobody” (and the webserver is probably running as such), may not read, write, or list this directory. Small wonder that EE complains about lack of permissions. Not being the owner of this directory, I could not change permissions, either. You’ll have to take that up with your server guys, I am afraid.
Thanks for helping get to the bottom of the problem. Just so I understand, as you’re talking about the “system” folder, you’re not talking about the EE “system” folder which I renamed, but instead the root folder in which the EE install files are in, right?
