I’ve looked at the instructions for updating from 1.6.0 to 1.6.3 and am a little confused. There are extra steps for each of the versions 1.6.1 and 1.6.3 (esp 1.6.3) Do I do the upgrade to 1.6.1 first and then the 1.6.3 stuff, or do I go directly to 1.6.3?

When you go to mysite.com/system/update.php?  It will say something like ‘You are running 1.6.0 click to update to 1.6.1’- once you click- it repeats with ‘update to 1.6.2’  etc.  Until you run out of updates and it tells you you’re done.

So- do that first.  Then check the version notes for each version and make any necessary changes.

So just to make sure I understand this ... I make the version changes AFTER running the upgrade script? I do steps 1-4, and THEN make the modifications for the different versions ...

Exactly- most of the version notes are just tweaks to member templates and such.  Run through the update- then make the tweaks.  And if you haven’t edited your member profile templates, cp theme, forum theme- then I’ll generally just replace the theme folders with fresh copies.  In which case, the vast majority of version tweaks don’t need to be made manually.
