Just installed ee and have not changed anything yet. The install was successful, and I got the two links to the control panel login and the site itself. I logged in, and got the following error message at my system index page:

Warning: Unexpected character in input: '\' (ASCII=92) state=1 in /home/chif6645/public_html/ee/***/core/core.typography.php on line 1087

Parse error
: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING in /home/chif6645/public_html/ee/***/core/core.typography.php on line 1087

What’s up? I’m running on a PHP server, passed the Wizard file’s requirements, etc.

Hi, hotknife - welcome to the forums!

Can you go to Admin -> Utilities -> PHP Info and do a find in page for “magic_quotes” and let us know what that says?

We’ve seen this error with conditionals before, but it’s pretty rare.  You say you haven’t made any changes, just a pure, clean installation?

Actually, I can’t even SEE my ee control panel to get at the Admin -> etc. I get the login screen, then I’m directed straight to that error.

No changes at all. Bought the license, downloaded, uploaded to server that has never before seen an ee install, set up the MySQL db,  ran the installer page. I got the last page of the install, telling me that my installation was successful, then, when I followed the link to my control panel, I logged in and got that error.

Could it be a permissions error? I have not changed any directory permissions (but the installer didn’t run into any problems there, so I assumed everything was OK).

Hrm, it doesn’t sound like it.  Can you create a PHP Info file and do a search for magic_quotes and see what the settings are for it?  You can set up a PHP Info file by creating a plain text file called phpinfo.php, and place this code in it:

<?php

// Show all information, defaults to INFO_ALL
phpinfo();
?>

Upload that to your server then visit it in your browser.  Thanks!

Got it. The settings are:

magic_quotes_gpc        On    On
magic_quotes_runtime    Off    Off
magic_quotes_sybase     Off    Off

Hm- still poking this one- and thanks for the update.  I didn’t think the typography class was called on that page.  What’s the url look like in the browser bar when you throw that error?  (Change system folder name to ‘system’ in the url when you paste it.)

Hi, folks—I did a clean reinstall of ee and it now works. (Perhaps something got messed up in transit the first time?)

Thanks for the assistance!
