Just a heads up to any Indiana Jones fans. Even though the ‘official’ release date is Thursday, May 22nd… you probably should be able to find a local theater playing it late Wednesday night at midnight. I’m near the coast of NC and our closest theater has two showings at midnight.
Just wanted to let anyone know who might be interested. I can’t wait!
So what’s the verdict? I’m looking forward to seeing it myself. Perhaps next week on a weekday when it will not be as crowded. I’ve been a shift worker for more years than I care to count so going to a cinema on a weekend when the crowds are about just plain annoys me. Still I hate having to wait!
I really can’t wait to see it but I’m gonna have to - I can’t do cinemas. I’m easily irritated by the slightest noise, and noisy popcorn crunching tops the bill of things that *really* wind me up. Last film I saw at the cinema was Rocky Balboa, and I had someone sat next to me who spent the entire film grabbing a handful of “bottomless popcorn” and kinda mashing the whole lot into his mouth whilst chewing. I kid you not when I say I finished the film sweating profusely due to extreme anger.
Yep can’t wait to see this one although I’m quite a lot older nowadays and so I’m hoping that they haven’t done a lot of the stunts with CGI effects as I think that just ruins films for me nowadays. I much prefer the original way of doing things like the original Star Wars film which I remember seeing over here in the UK when it very first came out. Even though I know nowadays that the tie-fighters and all other ships are just models I think they work a million gazillion times better than any CGI effects ever do. I really don’t like some of the effects they put into the newer Star Wars films, they just weren’t in keeping with the original look. Just me though I suppose getting old.
Anyway will probably go and see this on Monday on my ‘day off’ just hope they do more original stunt action and models than CGI though as I can spot CGI a mile off. Not one film has ever caught me out yet with CGI so film makers please take note!! DON’T DO IT. I know it saves money but it’s just not as good!
Absolutely I went to see the Hulk when it came out and felt like I had been cheated. I mean why all of a sudden was he like 3,000 feet tall? Looked really really stupid and one bit that really made me laugh was when he tore apart one of the tanks and the top part of the tank (turret) came off and it was a CGI tank and they hadn’t bothered to put the hole in the underneath of the turret so it just looked so unrealistic as there wouldn’t have been any way for the guys to get in the tank!!
Very very laughable that one was!!
Spiderman too does look pretty bad as well. I think the best thing I have seen in a while was the Superman movie although for that they did set up a massive rig for the actor to jump around in and when that was superimposed with the rest of the scenery did look pretty awesome I must admit.

Right there with you, Andy. Probably a nationwide epidemic, but the general noise level, age of kids being brought to the theater even for late shows, and people’s general disregard for others has stopped us from going to the theater. Last movie my wife and I went to in the theater was King Kong.
I actually know exactly what you mean. There used to be a much better bunch of people back in the 80s. I remember going to see films back in the day and people would actually clap and cheer for big films just before it would start. Then we would all be really quite as mice during the film. Nowadays flipping mobile phones going off all over the place.
I think I’m going to create a phone blanking aerial so that mobiles just can’t pick up signals in cinemas as that really annoys me!!
I just watched (at the theater with a sold-out crowd, didn’t bother me, although nobody was chewing in my ear ) Indiana Jones, and it’s a real popcorn flick. To really enjoy it, you’ll have to treat it on the same level as the third one.
Mark, you’ll be happy to know that the movie looks and feels a lot like the others, (except the end). Stunts look real - no CGI, complete with the traditional punching noises.
It was good entertainment. And you guys are getting old…
Indeed, but when I was in my teens, I still liked to hear and see the movie. People (including me) acted like idiots when they were supposed to - during the slide show ads before the previews, and maybe a bit during the previews. But when the house lights came down, people remembered that they bought a ticket to watch a movie. Methinks it’s not so much me that has changed…
Maybe it’s a cultural thing, because I’ve never had a problem with people interrupting my viewing experience at a theatre. (I live in Canada, maybe we need to ask Derek Allard what he’s experienced)
In fact, after this movie, there was a short burst of applause.
However, I visit the theatre on average 3 times a year - so I’m not a diehard fan of theatres either. Seems like a waste of money on most occasions, not to mention the absolutely inSANE prices of the “food.”
Well just saw it today and must say that I was pretty impressed. There were quite a few CGI effects but only a couple of them slightly stuck out but nothing that stuck out for too long.
There were a lot more matte paintings in this one but again nothing that stuck out for too long thankfully. I was exceptionally grateful that they kept the humour the same and there were some really nice little jokes in there that only people who remember the originals would get and I found myself laughing out quite loud at a couple but found that not really anyone else in the cinema remembered what I did. Jeez the youth of today eh?
Actually, I’ve seen it as well and found it rather mediocre. I didn’t find the storyline very compelling, and some of the scenes were just way too long (the motorcycle chase at the college, eg, or the whole jungle convoy thing). Bringing back Karen Allen was a nice touch, though, I admit.
