A colleague and I have both had chunks of code deleted from the ends of template files (and css files) from our mounted ExpanDrive’s. Both on different machines and different servers (although both EngineHosting servers).
No problems here glad to say and using this on servers that have content online so would notice problems probably straight away if they were happening.
None of the servers I am on are EngineHosting though. Don’t know if that has anything to do with it though. I wouldn’t have thought so. Have you given a heads up to the development team of ExpanDrive via their forums?

I had that happen to me a few times in the previous versions but it hasn’t happened in a long time. It was an odd issue though and I was unable to repeat it at all. The dev is actually offering a free iPod to anyone who can come up with steps to reproduce it reliably.
EDIT: Also meant to add that I had a similar problem with Transmit where if the SFTP session gets dropped while I’m editing a file (happens more than I like using Transmit and EngineHosting servers) and I save it and then close the file Transmit decides to overwrite that file the next time I connect. Only it overwrites the file with a blank one. I wanted to scream the first couple of times before I realized what was going on.
Jamie - that drives us up the wall too! Glad to see it happens to other people… (well, not glad that you’re having files overwritten obviously, but… you know what I mean!)

Has anyone else has this problem?
I’ve noticed that a couple times. I can’t recall the hows or whys but I think it had something to do with a session being interrupted somehow. I try to not keep too many files open at once.
I also had the issue of losing chunks off the end of files but I’ve stuck with ExpanDrive and Magnetk has steadily released upgrades and that issue is history and for me at least ExpanDrive is a vital part of my setup.
Yep. Just downloaded the new version to give it a try. SO far so good. Really looking forward to using this in conjunction with Textmate and its EE bundle. Been using Coda up to now, and I’ve been more impressed with it than I thought, but Textmate is my tool of choice, and now its just got a whole lot easier….

The indispensible add-on here is ReMate, which enables you to maintain a large remote TextMate project without the spinning umbrella of slumber coming up every time you refocus.
Have to admit to having had a few problems with this today. Eg. If I create a new template in EE back-end then save it as a file, I can’t get it to show up/refresh in Textmate with my mounted drive being used as a project. I tried everything I could. The only thing that worked was unmounting and mounting the drive again and reloading the Textmate project.
Also had a few scary moments when Textmate seemed to be opening an older version of a template. At this stage of my EE development life (ie. a newbie), this is probably something I could do without! Reluctantly switched back to Coda for now.

Yeah. I did wonder that! But tried ReMate and it didnt seem to solve the problem I was having.
The problem seems to be that Expandrive itself is not even noticing any remote files that get added or changed. It simply doesn’t refresh without a dismount/remount cycle. See here : http://forum.magnetk.com/index.php/topic,756.0.html
As such, really no good for my EE workflow at all. Not expecting a fix any time soon according to Expandrive’s site. Perhaps Textmate may get some better remote file editing functions before then!
Angstmann, it works for me on both FTP and SFTP connections. Are you working on templates both via the EE control panel and TextMate simultaneously? I’ve never done that—TextMate only after the initial creation of the template. Is that the problem you’re facing? Or something more basic than that?
In TextMate, are you hitting the “Refresh Project Files” menu item (ReMate adds this) whenever you create a new template via the EE cpanel? It’s in the Project Drawer’s 3rd menu at the bottom, with the cog icon.
Shame not to get it working because ExpanDrive+TextMate is a good smooth way to work in EE.
No, I just use the EE control panel to create the new template, then I open it, save it as a file and never touch it in the control panel again! If I do that, go back and go back into Textmate it simply doesn’t refresh. If I check teh mounted FTP drive that Expandrive creates, it is not there either.
Believe me, I would LOVE to get this working, as I do really like Textmate and the EE bundle and all the other things that make Textmate a great editor.

Looking at the mounted drive, if you click out of the directory into which you’ve saved the template, such as into a sibling directory, then back into it again, the new file doesn’t appear?
No, Im afraid not… it shows nothing up at all. I am connecting via standard FTP using the latest version of Expandrive. From reading some of the forums I linked to previously, it seems this is a known problem for some people. I just wish it wasn’t for me!
