i know it’s silly of me to ask here, but can you guys give us a hopeful time frame as to when the 2.0 release will be. i know you’ve said summer, but when in summer? we’re already in summer…

Actually, more like, spring right now, right? But I am afraid there is no more precise schedule available at this point.

Just curious if deleting files will eventually be ajaxified, instead of going to that 2nd deletion confirmation page.. just wondering if this will be the case for all deleting in 2.0, including entries.. It would be nice to just be able to delete things with out refreshing the page.. just a thought smile great preview! looking forward to getting my mitts on 2.0

Looks just awesome!
You deleted CodeIgniter Superhero Derek Allard though, the project is doomed now, doomed I say.

Looks great - well done!

I’m also interested in knowing if the interface can handle hundreds of files, as that’s what we have in each file upload location.

FTP’d files will show up, deepsurface, if they match the allowed types of files for that file upload location.

First of all not too sure how this post slipped by my browser as it never showed up as a new post, weird. Secondly thanks for the excellent sneak preview. All looks really really great.

I have around 100 questions now but will limit to just the one if I may?

Referring to what you said above Derek I am wondering if there would possibly be any kind of over-ride for Super Admins within the allowed File-types?

Say I had already FTP’d some audio files into a folder and then the upload folder location in ExpressionEngine is only allowed to have image types then I as Super Admin would still like to be able to see the audio files if at all possible?

Excellent work though, can’t wait to see the final finished masterpiece grin

Best wishes,

Mark

That’s not yet been decided Mark, though our leanings with Super Admins is generally on the side of anything and everything.

Thanks Derek, thought as much.

Excellent work and props (trying to sound younger than I really am nowadays!) to the whole of the dev team on such excellent work.

Best wishes,

Mark

First let me say thanks for giving us a preview.

Are there any plans to have a file manager on a per category or per entry basis? Because I need to handle hundreds of images, so I would really appreciate to have a solution that goes beyond global file management. Especially is there something planned to enhance the publish form with file management capabilities?

Thanks for keeping us in the loop,
Timon

Just to let people know that we won’t be answering most of the questions here but we are reviewing everything that people are asking. Feel free to ask whatever you want and know that it will be reviewed directly by the development team but right now there simply isn’t time to address everything smile

Why would I want to upload Word/text files? Can that content be pulled automatically into an EE entry?

Thanks.

Do you have a plugin that will take content from your weblog and output a downloadable, fully formatted Word document, complete with all layout features, embedded audio and video, notations, etc.?  Database driven content doesn’t completely negate the need for document distribution in all cases.  PDFs are a good example of this; I just happened to toss in a text file and Word doc into the video.

Looks really nice Derek.

My only addition would be to hope that you guys are examining/considering possible ways to get around the PHP file upload size limit in some way.  No need to answer whether this is case, just thought I would throw it out there.  I have clients who routinely run into that limit with larger PDF, Audio, and Video files.

I have a cross platform FTP Droplet solution that I use when they run into it but as always it would be a glorious thing to just never have to worry about it.  smile

This looks so slick! It’s beautiful.

I’ll add mine to the voices curious about how integration into the Publish form will work. Also how much I can control what users can upload there - limiting file sizes, automatically creating thumbnails for an image or resizing down to certain dimensions, where and how images/files get inserted into fields, etc? The more I can control, the better I can foolproof it and make it easy for the end users.

For me, the file manager was probably the single greatest weakness in the Publish form. It was too esoteric, too many options, too hard to customize.  The extensions were a valiant but imperfect solution.

The design of the Publish form looked 1000% improved in the last screencast. I hope the same can be said for how the file manager lives there. It really is at the crux of how I use EE. More convenience for me is nice, but the non-techies’ user experience is my top concern.

Great work guys. My credit card and I anxiously await this release.

Feel free to ask whatever you want

Can you make the interface in hacker black with really dark gray text - I think that’s cool.

Some ideas for you guys -

Upload progress bar
Inbuilt search bar (jQuery)
Live filter (similar to the EE 2.0 published entries page)

Ability to link to Amazon S3 or other remote storage locations

Better upload destination creation
On the fly upload destination creation (on file upload)

Member/Group locks on particular folders

Photo Gallery features such as proper thumbnail and mid size image creation based on presets. Then create easy to use references such as {picture_thumb} or {picture_mid} to make Lightbox/Thickbox use easier for images.

Better reporting of errors such as file too big, wrong filetype or chmod is wrong.

Batch upload of images with preset actions (such as naming, thumbnail sizes, watermarks etc)

That’a all I can think of for now. Cheers guys!
