I once remember that someone told me to put a dot before the template name, but now I don’t remember what that was meant to do.

For example what’s the difference between {embed=“includes/.header”} and {embed=“includes/header”}

That’s just a mechanism put in place so that you can hide templates from view by people publically. Say you had a template that you embed into another template. Whilst the two templates may work quite nicely if viewed in that way (embedded) if someone was to come across the name of your embedded template (not really too sure how they would happen upon that though) then it will not render for them because they may possibly be able to get at information they aren’t supposed to or things would just look very very wonky!

There is also a configuration variable that can be used to change the dot to something else if you prefer.

No problem.

Never actually used it myself as I don’t do too many embeds although a few here and there but no-one would ever be able to guess the names of them anyway so I’m not too fussed.
