I often find myself setting up similar Custom Weblog Fields.

In most cases I have a separate Custom Section Field for each weblog.  More often that not, even if it’s down the track, a client will ask to have some extra functionality added to a certain weblog - and if multiple weblogs are sharing the same Custom Section Field group it’s best to keep this extra functionality (ie. a new custom field) out of the other weblogs that don’t require it.

Therefore I was wondering if there could be an a new feature added to make development and setup easier.

I’m thinking an option to duplicate an entire weblog (I always rename it to section). When you select to duplicate a weblog it asks if you would like to duplicate the Custom Section Fields associated with that weblog.

A name would be entered for the new weblog and a prefix given to all the custom fields so they could be easily used and identified in templates.

I know this would be a massive time saver (at least for me) in setting up the framework when I’m starting out a new site.

I agree, great suggestion. Additionally, I’d love to be able to combine custom field groups like you can currently with Category field groupings. If you have a weblogs that share the same custom field group with another weblog, then you might create an additional field group and add that with with just the weblogs that need the additional fields.

What if the fields are separate and can be assigned to a Weblog individually? So when you create a field, there’s a list of current Weblogs and you choose which Weblogs to make them available to. Then have an area for each Weblog where the assigned fields appear and let you arrange them.
