I don’t use them, I don’t know many people who use them. What do you think? Are trackbacks fading?

I disabled trackbacks and removed the module. I was getting more spam trackbacks than legitimate ones, and the spam ones weren’t blacklistable because they contained no genuine links.

It was almost as if the perps were trying to kill off trackbacks, since there was no other conceivable benefit to them.

Same here ... okay, not removed the module, but disabled trackback on almost every site.

More to the point - If they are still alive anywhere then we should all make it a definite point to stamp them out.

Stamp. stamp. stamp!!
That equates nicely to Kill, kill, kill but toned down a bit for the forums!! wink

Best wishes,

Mark

Oh, they were a good idea, but the vulnerability was fatal.

There are other ways to find out about other sites linking, and they have the added benefit of tracking only those links that people actually click (though referrer spam is an entirely different problem).

I have never used them on an EE site and turned them off on my MT sites many yeas ago. Initially I did get a good number and it was a great way to network similar topics together across sites but the spammers realised the benefits and killed it. The thing is quality links, i.e. links between pages of relevant information is a bigger topic than ever and Trackbacks are perfect for this. Perhaps they will come back one day.
