Just a personal observation. OK, I’m beginning to get a handle on EE, the use of the word weblog to describe two different constructs is a bit confusing. I can understand that its origins lie in the distant past when EE was simply another weblogging tool, al la Wordpress, et al. But now its use can also mean, within EE; container (of selections of other material), section, or, well, weblog. I know that one can change the preferences in the general configuration to substitute a word of choice in place of weblog, but would it not be better at some near-future point to simply bite the bullet and give it its own distinct definition?
EE’s capabilities for extending functionality, through modules, extensions, plugins - which to the untrained eye all seem a bit the same, is compounded by a confusion as to whether in some instances the use of categories or multiple weblogs is the better route.
These inbuilt areas of functional overlap are not well explained (yes, I’ve read the wiki) with the decidedly cursory EE documentation and I can’t help but feel that this contributes much to the widely perceived notion that EE has a steep learning curve.
Actually, from following Mike Boyink’s tutorials on building a sample small business website, I found that much of the mystique disappeared and things aren’t nearly as complex as they seem. Why couldn’t EE do the same sort of thing as a given?
Once I’ve got the hang of this thing I’d be more than happy to offer my services in whatever capacity to smooth out the learning curve for new users.
