I am having the exact same trouble as Jim. Same error message and what not. Can view the website but not the control panel. Does anyone have a solution?

My stats:
Fresh Install
40M Memory Limit
php5 and mysql

It got split so I thought I would add some detail. Thank you in advance.

EE goes through the install motions fine. The site is viewable.  However access to the Control Panel is denied by an internal server error (500).  The error log reports a premature end of script header.

I had a previous version of EE Core running with no worries. I completely removed EE and the database. Then installed EE 1.63 from scratch.  Site fine, CP not so fine.

Thanks

That is rather unusual, to be sure. Before we try anything else, can you try to re-upload your files? Just to exlude any corrupted files. Also, what platform are we talking about? Windows box?

I have deleted and re installed EE (Commercial). A couple times now. I renamed the system folder initially and on the second attempt left it system. As well as dropping the database both times. I checked the path.php, config.php and index.php.

I read in a thread to make sure the index.php in the system directory was correct one. So, I replaced it with the original from the stock EE files.

I am working on a shared host (HostGator) running Linux. I am in the process of talking with HostGator now.  I am at a loss, currently, being new to EE. I will re download the EE zip and try again.

Thanks

Yes, my suggestion would have been to re-download the files. It certainly sounds like a corrupted file somewhere.

Are you self-hosted? Either way, do you have access to the web server logs? They might tell us a bit more. Error 500 is notoriously difficult to troubleshoot.

Yes, the error log says:

[Wed May 14 16:50:16 2008] [error] [client *.*.*.*] Premature end of script headers: /****/system/index.php

Does this help?

jansen, you mentioned earlier in the thread that EECore worked.

I know it’s a pain, but can you install EECore again? Just to see if something changed from that time until this time.

Will do. I am having HostGator reset my account back to default, right now.

Alright here we go:

I had Hostgator reset my account back to a brand new account and increase the PHP Memory Limit to 64MB.
I then installed the EE Commercial 1.63. Install breezed through, but no CP.
Removed EE Commercial and downloaded EE Core 1.63. Installed it and no CP. I get the same error as before. “Premature end of script headers:” on system/index.php for both versions.  I can not find the original EE core zip file I used it was probably an earlier version. If you can tell me where to get those I will try them.

But I am at a complete loss.

My stats as far as what the server I use is running:
PHP 5.2.5
MySql 5.0.45-community
Linux Kernel 2.6.24.7-grsec

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think I figured it out.  I was using Linux(Ubuntu) built in FTP “Connect to Server”. So I wondered if it was transferring the file correctly. I used Filezilla and everything worked. I don’t know but maybe that is it.

But it all works now so thanks for putting up with me. This could be Jim’s problem to from the earlier thread.

So it was a corrupted file after all? Perhaps transfered in binary mode, instead of text, or vice versa? Although most FTP clients get this right automtically, these days. Either way, glad you’re squared away. Closing for now, if anything else comes up, kindly start a new thread, thank you.
