Just upgraded after a few years, and now, the main page displays nothing.  I changed to the new index.php file, and can get into the admin.php/control panel no problem.

Any ideas?

What’s the turn around time for support here?

Did you look at previous posts in “Installation Problems” dealing with upgrading
from 1.5 to 1.6, and the suggested links to the Wiki, like Config.php_for_v1.6.0 and
Category:Troubleshooting?

Sorry Tim- no one is officially ‘on’ Friday night- Sun. morning.  We surf through then, but it’s the longest gap you’ll run into.

Could be a number of things- most often something got corrupted during the file upload.  But an error message would help to quickly pinpoint the culprit.  Check this kblog entry- run through the checkpoints- path.php, etc- if that doesn’t do it, then it lays out how to try and force errors.

Make sense?

This upgrade was anything but seamless.  I followed the docs, and resulted in problems.  I followed the above advice and trimmed my config.php file, and now the site works a bit more. (where was that info in the upgrade docs???)

So the new error is invalid format in replace:

Error

The following tag has a syntax error
:

{exp:replacestring}

Please correct the syntax in your template
.

What next?

Odds are pretty good that when you upgraded, you didn’t move over a copy of the third party plugin.  Check in system/plugins- doe you have a copy of the plugin installed?  Should see a file called pi.replacestring.php in there?  If not- need to move it over from your backup- or put a new copy up.  But if you put up a fresh copy, be sure to fill in the array of bits you want replaced.

Make sense?

Thanks...works now.  Didn’t realize that was a plugin.  Is there anything else I need to do or if it works, or don’t worry until a problem arises?

Any missing plugins should result in the same kind of message- so they should be easy to spot.  If you hit one- just copy it over.  Might also want to skim through your backup files- see if you had anything in ‘extensions’ and check for any custom modules you had installed.  (I always have a ton of both I have to move over- most folks won’t.)

Other than that?  Sounds like you’re good to go.  But I’m going to keep this one open a bit longer, just in case you do run into something.  If so?  Just give a yell.  (We’re usually pretty speedy- but weekends can be slower than normal.)
