One member profile for forum and EE?

Hi,

I bought the forum a few days ago and while I customized the design I wondered why I have to customize the member profile again, because I already did that in EE. Then I noticed that I now have two member profiles with the same options. This is not very useful. Is it possible to have only one member area for both: EE and the forum?

Thanks and regards

The Ellis Labs sites seem to use the forum profiles instead of the regular “member templates.”

Ok, but why do I have two member profiles which contains the same content? Doesn´t it matter which one I use?

I think it depends on what you want to display, as there seems to be some overlap.  For me, personally I like the forum themes, as they are a little snappier ‘out of the box.’  But that’s just me.

By default, you get to your regular member page by going to domain.com/index.php/member/profile.

If you want to use the forum templates, go to:

CP Home ›  Admin ›  Members and Groups ›  Membership Preferences

And kill the Profile Triggering Word.

I hope my round-a-bout non-answer helps wink

Do not make blank the member profile triggering word, it will break your forums.  You can just make it some weird combination of letters that is unguessable.

I also simply point my member data to the forums.  See this recently added wiki article =)

Create a .htaccess file in your site root ie. http://youdomain.com/

  >>> What a nice sentence wink

I have installed EE in http://mydomain.com/cms

I tried to put the access in the root directory but also in /cms. Both didn´t work. Everytime when I choose the link to my member profile I can access it without forwarding to /forums/member

Hmm…this is the second time that a .htaccess issue didn´t work. A few weeks ago I tried to remove the index.php from the url but it didn´t work too…

Who is your host?

Is the host server running Apache, or maybe the problem is it is under a windows iis or lightppd environment?

It is a German host you don´t know. MY server is a VPS and yes, it is an Apache. In the next days I will figure out where the problem might be…
