I just signed up for Mosso however I may cancel if I can’t setup domains and subdomains to access my single install.

Does anyone have experience with Mosso and know if this will work?

I would need to be able to put in the system path:

$system_path = “../system/”;

I have several EE installations at mosso.  What exactly are you trying to do?

Don’t want to hijack this thread but perhaps after you’ve been helped those of you who use Mosso could comment on the service there? I’ve often considered using Mosso and I’m interested in what you guys think (+/-).

Quick reply to Ignite…

I have to admit, after reading negative comments regarding Mosso and MT, I was a little nervous signing up.  And while I’d love to use Engine Hosting, I’m a stickler for control.  The control panel at Mosso is great and their support is always available via phone or chat (I prefer chat).  I’ve experienced a few 15-45 minute database connectivity issues, but nothing like the nightmares I’ve read about MT having ::knocks on wood::.  I don’t use their features related to client hosting, so I can’t comment on that.  Overall, I’d give them a B+.

Thanks Stephen. I’d like to hear if anyone else is on Mosso, too.

Your install went relatively smoothly? Do you remove the index.php from the url and did you have any trouble with it? Do you save your templates to text file and do you have any trouble with that?

Anyone else?

Thanks a bunch

ps. a rep at Mosso just told me EE runs “kinda iffy” ... hmm…

I do remove the index.php with .htaccess and haven’t had any issues.  Installation was fine numerous times.  I save templates to text files with no problem.

The one thing I should mention is all of my sites at mosso (8-10 installations of EE) are development sites, so the only traffic they get are from us.  So, I don’t know what he meant by “iffy”, but I’ve not had any issues outside the 3-4 database connectivity problems.  I was told by Mosso support it was someone with a cron job running that was screwing everything up.  It took their technicians roughly 45 minutes to get it squared away.

Having said that, it would make me happier to use Engine Hosting.  When Engine Hosting works on their Control Panel, I hope they take a look at Mosso’s, because I’m sure they can improve on an already impressive CP… I’ll be switching when they do;)

We run about a half dozen EE sites through Mosso without any difficulty.  No problem with the mod_rewrite or saving templates as files.

Re: Mosso as a company, I think B+ is fair.  Phenomenal control panel, independent client billing, Apache or Windows, really responsive customer support.

On the downside, they’ve had quite a bit of downtime.  Not lately, actually, but for a while it seemed like all our sites would go down once a week for several hours, and this was for like 8 weeks… we’d know whenever we’d get calls from clients!

Anyway, we were getting really frustrated, but they seem to have gotten their act together.  So overall net positive recommendation.

Yeah, I ditto those sentiments.  At first I worried because our site went down twice in the first week.  Since then, everything has been pretty solid.

EE’s server requirements wizard tells me that Mosso doesn’t support url segments ... is this true?

Not true.  I use them on every site I do and Mosso is my development/testing area.

Top-notch.  No complaints.

anyone using MSM on mosso?

We are, here and here.

EDIT: Mr Nevin Lyne PM’d me to note that, in fact, EnergyRace and LiveCooler are both hosted with EngineHosting, not Mosso.  We did just install their MSM and, though all our other sites are hosted with Mosso, this project we took over from another client, so I was mistaken.  The OnWired editorial board regrets the error.

So the question still remains: can you run MSM (or even just multiple domains, single EE install) on Mosso?

Update: I’ve just confirmed with Mosso support (live chat) that it is NOT possible to run MSM—or even multiple domains with path.php—on Mosso.

I’m working on some dev sites that I learned are being hosted at Mosso and I’m running into two things.

1) I can’t seem to successfully remove ‘index.php’ (now mind you, I’ve done a few EE sites in my day, so this one isn’t Operator Error...not this time) It certainly doesn’t seem to want to work with the “File and Directory Check” Method.

2) File permissions seem odd. Everything I look at through Transmit shows ‘(?)’ for owner and group. I’m trying to use Lumis’ Imgsizer plugin, which I use on almost every site I do, and it’s simply not able to write to the cache folder(s), which I’ve also had to make manually. Definitely haven’t had that issue on other servers.

I’ll be contacting Mosso shortly, but thought I’d throw a couple things out there.

I am running multiple sites with mosso but only using sub domains at the moment.

site1.mydomain.com & site2.mydomain.com

I’m not sure about running two seperate sites on seperate domains tho.
