Accessories - New Tabs at the bottom of control panel (you select where each Accessory shows up) that can hold just about anything - including Monty Python videos (not kidding).

Ah, so that explains the tab labelled “Albatross” and keeps me from asking a Very Stupid Question.

Leopard did away with the brushed metal look for Safari. Using Occam’s razor we can reasonably assume Derek hasn’t upgraded. But why would we want to do that?

Paul just indicated, without saying anything specific, that revisions have been made to the way member “themes” are modified. For what it’s worth, he was very clear about referring to them as “themes” as opposed to “templates”.

Yes but you can get rid of the brushed metal effect anyway so I thought maybe you had seen something else somewhere!

Crickey! This really is like LOST!

The publish page is looking great, especially the come-hither upload photo / upload file buttons and the styling buttons - attached to the field at last!

I hope there will also be more ability to customize how fields get laid out within the page and in our own custom tabs (I use a LOT of fields). But like everyone, I could go on and on with questions and ideas. With CodeIgnitor an jQuery - so many possibilities.

Overall, looks like a great leap forward for the UI. Of course, we’ll need to play with it to pass final judgement, but some AJAXiness and smart streamlining could really make life easier. Unlike Mark, though I share some of his concern, I like this direction. You’re really going after so much of what I and I think many others here have found lacking in the CP. So, thanks, guys.

This is a seriously BRILLIANT little idea. Hope there are more innovations like it to be found.

My last post went up before I saw Ryan’s great updates (thanks and keep them coming). So much sounds like it addresses my dreams of a more flexible, usable UI - it’s like they’ve read my mind.

Can’t wait to kick the tires and see how she runs…

Looks like some great features have been added. I’m looking forward to it.

However I do hope some attention will go into alternative CP themes; that current theme looks fine for blog people but not so great for serious business people. I don’t think clients will take me seriously if I present them with that, it just looks way too playful and clunky. There something about the big fonts, colors, icons and gradients that make it very unappealing to me, I prefer refined, subtle, clear and professional. I have no problem with it being the default as long as there are alternatives. Sorry to be negative but I feel my concern is valid.

The official recaps won’t be posted until we get back next week. Also, keep in mind that this was a preview, not a full unveiling of everything that will be in 2.0. There are still a number of things that aren’t done, decided, as well as finished but won’t be talked about until we’re much closer to release. We will be as open as possible but that doesn’t mean we’re going to address every question or give away everything about 2.0 before release.

Rick: goal is to have a fully functioning pop-in commerce solution. Paul is “surprisingly far along” with a commerce solution. It is high on the radar, and the fact that CI will be under the hood, it will make it easier do develop.

From the rumor mill, Paul was almost done with a commerce module before they decided to completely redo EE in v2. That pretty much reset everything.
