Unfortunately, Leslie’s thread is in the locked Official Announcements forum. I have compiled a few tidbits. VisualBinary linked to my twitter. Thanks!

I have also just posted some images and screenshots. (Sorry for the poor quality, I snapped them fast while live Twittering on my smartphone.)

Flickr Set of Slides and EllisLab Team

All I can say is that I’m impressed! I think the team is headed in the right direction here. I’m looking forward, as I’m sure you all are, to really getting my hands dirty with EE2. The real test is going to be the real-world use of it. smile The CI<->EE relationship is very exciting news.

Thanks to the EllisLab team for this preview!

I’m already happy with these screenshots. Hope I can finally ditch TinyMCe and Ibrowser for some clients. The image upload is now near the field, which is a big improvement to me (my clients I mean)

I missed the official discussion thread when I posted this one.

BTW, thanks for the images and twittering.

Oh dear, is ”Collection” the new word for “weblog”?

Anyway, the preview is looking good. At least the new template looks very clean, especially the new tabs look very logical.

Here are some thoughts:
- What is the new thing for the custom fields?
Am I dreaming when I say you can create an endless list of custom fields, but depending on the “collection” you’re working in only a set of fields is accessible? Wow!
- Is there a simple built-in wysiwyg editor?
- EE on top of CI; I can’t even think of the possibilities of this. I really have to start learning php now. And what about the knowledge of the CI-community that’s instantly added to EE? That’s going to be amazing for the product. Won’t the license structure of EE conflict with CI?
- What is Albatross?

Nevertheless there are still a lot of questions for me. One of them is the support for organizations (ldap?) and the connectivity between entries, members and forums. To what extend are social sites possible?

Anyway, I’m excited! You guys are creating something that’s really standing out. Thank you!

PS some good EE2 info here: http://davidrussell.org/2008/03/08/expressionengine-open-panel-at-sxsw/
Don’t know where I found it, but I’ve been browsing various EE sites, so perhaps you’ve already seen it.

No official statements, but some unconfirmed rumors to some of your questions:

- Is there a simple built-in wysiwyg editor?

No, not built-in. That was addressed in the Q&A;session. Reasons were explained there.
There are vague ideas from 3rd party developers like Leevi that integration might be easier with the availability of jQuery on the backend.

No need to learn PHP/CI in the first run: It was mentioned that EE 2.0 will be an upgrade path, not a transition to a new structure. Developers of add-ons (plugins, extensions, modules) however seem to be forced to use a more CI/MVC-centric approach and have to modify their products.
As I understand it, its more a rebuilding of the EE engine that now uses CI, not adding EE to CI - so, a bunch of CI developers that have choosen not to need a CMS for their work will not invest in EE licenses. But there are of course developers that use CI and EE and that will profit from that switch ... and the community from them.
I’d even expect that new developers are attracted by the new CI/EE bundle - now beng able to access EE data from CI for a greater expansion of the possibilities of sites developed.

Albatross is a Monty Python Movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_u7VGiMO0U
Nice joke.

Yes, many questions open and it seems that the basic features of EE will not change that much in V2.0. But you have already pointed to the best resource available right now:

It was 4am when I took a look at this screenshot. I even prefer not having a built-in editor.

I did notice that, but even with the current EE I wished I had a greater knowledge of php to create my own plugins etc. If I think of the possibilities of EE+CI I just WANT to learn php.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your non-official answers!

Nice joke.

I got sucked in by that one, I saw the mention of Albatross on a lower tab in one of Derek Allards slides post.
I actually had hoped it was some sort of a learning resources or something, or guessed it was the code word for the 2.0 version. Now come to find out, it’s just as the name implies a “Big Ugly Bird”, good one(I’m getting plenty of Python viewing around here)!

Hey is it just a funny coincidence that DerekAllard.com has more or less the same color palette as the 2.0 demo version? I suppose not then, he’s probably been subliminally brain-washed by the new version, I wondered why all those robots had blank vacant stares, they’re zombie robots. Thanks for posting the pics then D.
