James, if you release a carrier pigeon with information about 2.0, I’ll buy you a beer.

If you can release a carrier pidgeon with version 2.0 I’ll buy you a keg.

If you strap a keg on a carrier pigeon and send it to my house, I’ll buy you 2 beers.

Come on now, that would be silly.  Just have him remove two pints of beer from the keg before he lets the carrier pigeon start the journey to your place!  Much more efficient wink

I’m an advanced hunt-n-peck typist, but I could make a simple page for people to go to, like masugadesign.com/ee2/ and try to listen and type as well as I can. All while clapping, hooting, and cheering of course. I could also twitter…but I’m not much of a twitterer.

I’ll have my phone there to use if the wi-fi connection gets swamped. I’ve been to so many conferences where connectivity sucks that I’ve learned my lesson about not depending on the venue to have a stable connection. I’ll make sure I’m using publishing outside of Twitter as well, in case they go down. And the probability of that is 100%. If they can’t provide constant service on normal days, I highly doubt they are prepared for SXSW.

Between me, Masuga and anyone else, I think word should get out fast enough.

In case anybody does attempt the Carrier pidgeon thing, and you are only a novice at it,
this C|Net news article would be a good read [smiley~here]
It tells all about the pidgeon powered internet back in the early days…

Been to lots of meetings in Austin, but never at the convention center. I was going to ask about the Wi-Fi availability there. (Not bringing a laptop, but relying on my phone.) Expect it, but don’t expect much, you think?

Also, should I assume cameras are allowed in?

Egad, I hope someone figures it out. They would be much loved. I’m waiting with bated breath to see the big 2.0.

Heck, if you have to, train one of those carrier pigeons to fly away to a local Starbucks, steal a MacBook from some over-caffeinated hipster, and peck out a liveblog. It can’t be harder than training a suit to use EE, am I right people? Zing!

Well, who WON’T be going that I could call on the phone - and they could update a page on a network well away from Austin, TX. I’ll just keep my Bluetooth headset on, and tell ‘em what’s happening as it happens - and hopefully they can type faster than I can. I’m willing to be an info conduit, just don’t know the best way to make that happen!

I think before SXSW, we should all agree on where best to look for updated 2.0 info. Well, anyone who isn’t going should agree…

I have a portable digital audio recorder that I’m bringing.  Are participants allowed to have a/v equipment?  It’s hard to imagine that being restricted at an interactive festival.

Hope they allow it since I want to bring a camera.

I hadn’t planned on taking my laptop, but it turns out our men’s basketball team will play in the regional tournament this weekend, so I’ll have some updates to post on our site. Hyatt Regency site says they’ve got Wi-Fi all over, so I guess I’m good to go there.

SXSW, by the way, is the most WiFi-intensive event I’ve ever seen, and for years now. More so than in Hong Kong or even Seoul. I’m constantly amazed at the laptops (mostly Macs, by the way) that are in everyone’s laps—it’s like every other person is blogging about what the person next to them is doing. I’m even impressed that the CC’s WiFi network can handle that level of traffic.

I’ve seen panelists blogging about what other panelists, on the same panel, are saying!

Excellent. Sunday morning should be great for me then!

Do you guys think you can have something on the site by 5pm or 6pm for me to look at?

That’s great news, Gary. Thanks. As I said above, I’m now bring my MacBook Pro to post some sports updates on the college’s site, and if the mood strikes I might bring it along to the convention center.

As an aside, and to show how anxious I am for my first SXSW, the National Weather Service is now forecasting a possible “significant snow event” for North Texas overnight Thursday and into Friday morning. Since I’m driving down from north of Dallas, this could be a big deal for me. So if that forecast holds into tomorrow, I’ll leave a day early and hole up in Waco or Temple Thursday night. I had to miss last year’s EllisLab SXSW event due to some last-minute work, so I don’t plan on letting a little thing like snow stop me this year.  grin

(That’s the plan, anyway.)
