We looked into this and let’s just say its not an option unfortunately due to SXSW policies regarding bringing your own equipment.

What about pigeons?

can i request you take some pigeons, and strap memory sticks to their backs and have them fly swiftly.

Some directions, so they don’t get lost.

Well, there is wi-fi so even if it isn’t live maybe people in the audience will live blog it. When we get closer we’ll see if we can get some volunteers or figure out a way to make something like that happen.

What are the policies then Leslie?

How about screencasting the demo and then uploading it?

Or give us all 2.0 now and we promise not to use it until then wink

Just kidding!! grin

Just curious though as to why you aren’t allowed to make screen-casts yet people who are watching in the audience would probably be able to?

Best wishes,

Mark

I didn’t say we weren’t allowed, I said we couldn’t use our own equipment. Everything has to be rented from SXSW sole vendor and let’s just say its not even close to reasonable.

As I’ve said many times before, we’ll figure out a way to make the same information available after the show. What exactly that will be we likely won’t know until after the show smile

Hi Leslie,

Sorry for the mis-understanding but I wasn’t aware of what exactly their policies were so that is why I asked. Just out of interest then how much does renting their equipment cost? You don’t have to give EE’s figures but I’m just wondering how much it costs to attend something like that and to display.

Why do they not allow you to use your own equipment. I would have thought that if you are using computers and such then you would want to display on something you can trust? Do they have their times somewhere on their site that I can see. Just curious really grin

Best wishes,

Mark

Hi Mark,

I’m not going to discuss the specifics.

Hi Leslie,

Okay. Sorry. I just thought that there might be a standard SXSW list showing how much things are. Not important if it isn’t publicly listed.

I shall sign off now grin

Best wishes,

Mark

Why do they not allow you to use your own equipment. I would have thought that if you are using computers and such then you would want to display on something you can trust?

Nearly every convention center and trade show venue is in the grip of both a predatory labor union and a greedy operator. Not only are you often not allowed to use your own equipment—why use your own when you can rent ours for such a reasonable price?—you also can’t move your own belongings into the venue. That’s a union job. So the exhibitor is left paying through the nose for everything. Wi-Fi at $20 an hour? A bargain!

Luckily, the hotel rooms are usually reasonably priced—until you figure in the $5 Cokes in the fridge, and $2 a minute for local calls. And the 17% tourist tax.

I’ll be there, certainly live-Twittering and possibly live-blogging. Unless I have issues with connection, I’ll make sure and get the word out. Assuming that’s alright with the EllisLab team. (?) It may not be screenshots and video, but you’ll get an idea of the new features and I’ll be as descriptive as possible.

We have no problem with people sharing the information in whatever fashion they desire at SXSW - the real challenge for you will be whether or not the networks are stable.  Last year, Twitter was inundated, and the web connection in the event center couldn’t handle the traffic.
