Hi,
I just installed EE 1.6. on a windows server to play with and found that the control panel is without template.

The Template path was d:wwwdurkgardenier.nlwwwnieuwsthemes
which I changed to d:\www\durkgardenier.nl\www\nieuws\themes\

However, after hitting update the path is changed back to the original
d:wwwdurkgardenier.nlwwwnieuwsthemes, so this did not help.

The captcha path is also wrong in a similar way.

What would you suggest?

Best regards,
Durk

The control panel is unstyled?  It sounds a lot like this thread, where Derek is trying to track down the quirk on certain windows boxes.  The suggested fix is to go to CP Home › Admin › System Preferences › General Configuration and manually add the slashes to the themes folder path- and any other path where it may be missing.

Now- it does sound like you may have already done that- it didn’t ‘stick’?  But I wanted to double check that before digging deeper.  Also- what build number did you install?  It should be showing in the (unstyled) footer.

If it’s changing back to the previous path, that probably means the path is listed in config.php. With 1.6 it shouldn’t be there anymore (I don’t think) but check there and edit as needed. Settings defined in config.php override those set in the control panel.

Maybe someone else also has an idea.

EDIT: Robin posted while I was writing, so I defer to Robin! smile

You’re probably going to be right, ryanirelan.  I think they’ve tried it my way and it revers to no slashes.  So- the next step would be- make sure the config.php is writable.  If that doesn’t do it- edit the config.php directly so the paths have the slashes.  And then we alert Derek that there’s another one acting up!

So yep- you’re probably going to be right on in the advice.  I was just taking it in baby steps.

Hi,

below is the config.php on the windows server with EE installed. (In the original unzipped directory the config.php is empty, so the contents must have been written on the server, and so the file is writable.)

installed: Build:  20070621

Regards,
Durk

<?php

if ( ! defined(‘EXT’)){
exit(‘Invalid file request’);
}

$conf[‘app_version’] = “160”;
$conf[‘license_number’] = “”;
$conf[‘debug’] = “1”;
$conf[‘install_lock’] = “1”;
Edtied by mod…
$conf[‘db_prefix’] = “exp”;
$conf[‘db_conntype’] = “0”;
$conf[‘system_folder’] = “hoofd”;

$conf[‘doc_url’] = “http://expressionengine.com/docs/”;
$conf[‘is_system_on’] = “y”;
$conf[‘allow_extensions’] = “n”;
$conf[‘multiple_sites_enabled’] = “n”;

Oops- I did a quick edit.  You don’t want to have your database info out there in public.  Yep- the config starts out as empty and is populated during the install process.

Let’s see- just to confirm- when you edit the paths in the control panel in order to add the slashes, it doesn’t ‘stick’- correct?

What’s the build date you’re running?  I know this his been ‘tweaked’ so if you aren’t on the very latest build, I’d suggest upgrading and seeing if that helps.  The build will be in the footer.

If that doesn’t work- then I’ll put in a report to Derek and for a temp solution you could add:

$conf['multiple_sites_enabled'] = "n";
$conf['theme_folder_url'] = "http://mysite.com/themes/";
?>

See the theme_folder_url?  Try adding that- and properly pointing to your themes folder.

All that make sense?

thanks for taking the sensitive parts away. I was in a hurry, but did indeed not want this to become public.

I downloaded and installed the latest software and the problem has gone. Thanks for your help in getting this resolved.

One more question: I have this installed on a windows server and before it actually ran two problems had to be solved with the help of the support forums. This one and one yesterday about cgi processing. I know that software is still software, but had not expected so much trouble.
Would you expect a unix environment to be more stable than a windows environment?
(I consider moving because on this server I cannot set security on a file level but only on directory level.  )

Thanks again,
Durk
